^ Depends on your situation. We have a credit line @ 3% annual. We don't use it much, but it comes in handy.

Yeah it's a really bad idea. Imagine loosing your job half way through the project - that would really drive home priorities...

Cash is the only way to go. If you want to build a $5,000 car, you don't start with $5,000. I've got that much in my project. It started with a $400 car. I only bought parts when the money was available. It's a realiable, street legal autocrosser.

I wouldn't! I'm a student and pay everything cash, anything on credit is simply online purchases of less than $500 and paid off within a month. My only project I can forsee being worth something is my 1982 rx7, 50k miles, cost me $500 and I could probably make a chunk of change once I get it road worthy. Not thousands, but more than I have into it.
