Use the Searchbar, Noob!

Does a Miata Torsen require Limited Slip Additive? I don't think it does, but I wanted to confirm before I order the appropriate RedLine product. It's about a $15 per quart difference.

It does not.

It's just a series of worn gears, nothing actually "slips" at all.

The manuals for many worm-gear-type diffs specifically tell you not to use limited slip gear oil with them.

Yeah this^. In my car I've got an even better situation. That is, I have a Torsen-type LSD, okay, fine, no additives. But, it's located inside a transaxles which runs straight-cut gears, and THAT manufacturer says to use "shockproof" oil, which has stuff in it that helps the gears, but reportedly is bad for the LSD. Never did find a solution so I use regular but high quality oil. Sorry for the jackage.

I thought LSD additive is designed to increase friction for clutch types. I'm not sure that shockproof oil has those, does it? I thought "shockproof" was designed to increase lubrication.

In reply to Brett_Murphy:

So far as I know the LSD friction modifier additive reduces clutch friction, keeps the clutches from chattering when going around corners
