The old 911 with the great steering was torsion bars. The 996/997 had struts and already had bad steering, but Porsche could at least tune it okay. The 991 is supposed to be a complete disaster. I was referring to a 997.

I'd hazard a guess going with double wishbones allowed better fine tuning of the spring rates and travel progression with the additional weight up front so the car would ride better.

My new grown up daily is exactly what you want. A manual 525iT.

I've driven it to tire limits and that it's front strut is a non-issue.

I don't get the anti McStrut, especialy as the old aircooled 911's are also McStrut, just because they are torsion bars doesn't mean they aren't McStrut

I love Crown Vics, I worked on the 2003 version, but to say McStruts are crap means you've never driven a Crown Vis and an E36 back to back

Are you positive on that? I 99% sure Gs and Zs used the same suspension, which is most definitely not a McP strut:

As for the McStrut hate, I've owned over 100 cars and have driven over a 1000 different ones, including several dozen on tracks/AX this year alone. When you sample that kind of variety, you eventually find things you like and dislike. MacStruts have poor steering feel and horrible jounce characteristics, and provide far less front grip, especially in low traction or uneven pavement situations. Yes, that can be "worked around", but I'm tired of working around crap, I just want my car to work.

So, G35, Lincoln LS, Caddy CTS (is the 1st Gen wishbone, too?), Jag S-Type, and IS300 so far.

Does RX8 count? Technically there are 4 doors! Double wishbone...
