I don't think this is a really 951. The nose is wrong. Unless it is a super early example that pre dated the normal 951 body.

Looks more like a 944 that got a 951 turbo setup and a 931 nose.

Probably one that nosed into an accident of some sort and needed to be repaired, so they used what was more easily available.

a quick look at the frame rails should tell you what you need to know.  That and checking the vin.

drop the price a few thousand and maybe it's worth rescuing and restoring.  A lot of questions need answering first before anyone of sound mind would part with that kind of money.

Otherwise it's another in a long line of "customized" 944 and that's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, which I suspect isn't $7500.

That said, a fool and his money are soon parted.  With the "dorifto" culture still an ongoing "thing" in some circles, the 944 is getting unwarranted attention from those knuckle draggers.  Many of whom have too much of their parents money to spend on dumb things.

Somebody would absolutely pay $7500 for that, especially in the current market. I've seen much worse examples sell for as much or more, and that was pre pandemic pricing. There's a couple of things that could be going on, it could be a 944 with a turbo swap, or like Stefan said it's a turbo that got crashed early on and repaired with 944 body panels, I've seen it before. The photos aren't clear enough to make out which badge it has, but there's plenty of other ways to tell. Honestly if it's either a turbo with the wrong body work or a well done swap and in generally decent shape it probably is worth at least close to asking price.

That seems like a pretty good price if it is a 951 though, no?

I don't follow pcars that closely but I figure 944 turbos are 10k cars?

With 4 other Porsches in the background, I would just ask the guy what's up with it.  All of the 951s should have the updated smoother fascia.

Looks like it has the sport seats which are highly desirable (electric, even).  The nose slots are from a 924 turbo and I think some people install those on (real) 944 turbos to improve cooling.  I'm not a fan of the wheels [Fuchs all the things forever!] but I don't see anything that says it's not a genuine 944 turbo.

The one picture is interesting as it seems to show, in addition to the subject Porsche, two more water-cooled 911s plus an air-cooled 911 across the street, all in an unassuming neighborhood.

It's got the 931 (924 turbo) nose, which isn't a typical swap and those parts aren't all that easy to find.  Newburyport is a pretty wealthy area of Boston, I'd ask the guy what's up...

The driver's seat bottom is ruined, but even just the decent looking passenger seat is probably worth something.

That setup needs some kind of ventilation, with the non-turbo front end there's no way for air to get to the intercooler. Our solution was to cut a big hole in the bumper beam.

Right, as a child of the 80's those are sweet and if they are the real thing even better.  I should probably put this in the Minor confessions thread but I have never really been a fan of Fuchs.

It is definitely not a 951. It has the pre-85.5 interior, turbo was launched after the refresh. It Looks like an early 944, with a 931 nose, and 951 running gear. Far more likely to have swapped in better running gear then a E36 M3ty interior! Also I can't tell on my phone, but I bet it has the old style windshield not the flush mounted one etc. If it came from the factory like that, then it is some Uber rare, Uber valuable unicorn.

The photos aren't very helpful but it definitely has a late center console in the interior shot and sure looks like a late dash in the last photo. Does look like it's got a non-airbag steering wheel, which would make it an '86.

Newburyport easily qualifies as a Four Porsche Neighborhood.

Possible that the owner is a Porsche fan but not a super fanatic and bought the car like that. Doesn't know what is/isn't original on it. To be honest as a casual observer I don't know anything about it but I think it looks sweet.

That would make a nice donor for my project and looks like I could drive it until I was ready for the parts needed. Definitely does not seem stock 951 though.

Not interested in the car at all just curious to read the commentary. How are you people noticing all these details with horrible screen shot pictures?

I realize it's probably a mut but I really like it, cool colour, cool wheels (with fans!), cool interior (the last pic shows the later dash poorly), for whatever reason I actually like the standard 944 nose better than the 944 S2/951 one as well and the 924 turbo vents look good and purposeful.

I'd definitely try to save it rather than part it out, it would be fun watching the Porsche guys all scratch their heads when you show up with it.

Speaking from experience, it was a good time. Most people didn't notice anything was wrong, but the few who did...very confused.

I was actually going to say that the last set of e52s I sold went to Norway for 3400$. Figure another $800-1200 for two turbo fans.... So the price on the car isn't to bad.

It also has a sunroof.  I don't know P cars so I don't know if you can tell anything from that. The windshield does appear to be flush (rubber seal) from the enlarged imaged on my laptop.

Sunroof was standard, non-sunroof is the rare option. But no difference between 944/951 in that department.

You can also see the fuse box location in the engin shot makes it a post 85.5 car.
