Well the all trac system also came on the previa. So I wonder how much of these systems can interact with each other?

None of it is electronically controlled. There are just air controlled solenoids from what the internet is telling me.

the previa awd is totally different then the transverse engine'd cars. the previa was laid out longitudinal used a transfer case. not sure exactly how it works on the previa but my understanding of the transverse awd is that it's similar to the DSM awd's, nothing fancy, just a set center diff dividing torque to front and back

Previous gen 88-91 camry's were available as awd. S based chassis too, so the squares could use a 3sgte. Basically a Camry alltrac turbo.

How close is the RAV4 to a Camry platform? Wondering if you could combine a later Camry and a RAV4 to make something AWD.

For an engine, I'd rather go with a 3S-GTE over the V6.

The RAV4 is based off of the Corolla platform.  The Highlander is based off of the Camry.  There are a lot of shared parts though, including engines, suspension pieces, etc.

Ask dr. Hess about that. He has a 3sgte powered rav4 right now.

I've always thought the 2nd and 3rd-generation ES300s were a handsome design. Wikipedia says that the 2nd-gen was available with a 5-speed manual, and being Camry based, couldn't you swap in a Camry 5-speed and pedal assembly if you couldn't find a factory stickshift ES300? And they had a 1MZ, which there was a TRD blower kit for. Lowered ES300 on some nice wheels with a supercharged V6 and a 5-speed? Yeah, I could get behind that.

Edit: Apparently Jalopnik even owned a manual transmission ES300 that they paid $600 for at one point. So they do exist in the real world

berkeleying unicorns.  Realistically I'd swap a solara trans in if I was building that. Bulletproof monsters, those.

AirRex still manufactures an air ride suspension for them. Probably not fast but I'd rock it.

I wonder how legit this is but.... Supercharged Camry for sale.

It also appears that GRM advertiser Split Second built one (Technically a Solara but meh)

I like that solara way more than I should.

Trd made superchargers for that era for a bit. Pretty cool stuff actually.

I had a '98 4cyl/5spd with KYB GR2s, eibach springs, whiteline front and rear sway bars, and a TRD Quickshifter.  It was slow, but handled well and was neutral.  I kept it 100% stock outside and no one ever noticed it.

On the Camry forums there were some seriously boosted 3rd gen Camrys (like the one above).  Rippmods made a header and eventually a supercharger for the 4th gen 4 cylinder for a short time.

The previa drivetrain is basically a 4cyl Tacoma setup laid on it's side. A guy swapped the xfer case to a dual range. I have a 5 speed one and it's a w58.

I have a 2000 Camry i am building.

I would say its Dope for an appliance.

It is a 5spd 4cyl car.

Its purpose will be a replacement for my totaled daily,

I plan to copy the grm camry project suspension set up.

It will definitley see an autocross, maybe even a track day for fun.

I have an 02 Avalon, which is fundamentally the same car, but with extra wheelbase.  It's an ES300 in Toyota clothing.  The TRD blower fits, there have been a few complete take-outs for sale on ebay recently.  There was a complete, running, 2000 Camry 5spd with the blower on it for a few weeks last month, in Illinois. Guy wanted $3500 for it.  I thought about that pretty hard, but reasoned that spending $2K plus, after recoup from selling the underlying camry after parts removal, to supercharge and manual swap my (perfectly functional and comfortable) daily driver and only make 250whp was a fools errand.  The back seat is big, but not live-in-it big (seats don't fold), which is what i'd have to do after SWMBO found out.

That said, i've mostly followed in the footsteps of GRM with their project camry, minus the spun bearings.  Big rear sway (whiteline, BTR39 i believe), whiteline control arm bushings, Solara strut bar, H&R ES300 springs and Tokico Blues (from Shox.com), a custom alignment and 235/45-17s on 17x8 BBS RK makes for a pretty entertaining drive.  Plenty of mechanical grip for on-ramp shenangians.  Debating a whiteline front bar if I have to drop the steering rack out.  Would like a baffled oil pan too, if one of the MR2 1MZ swap guys ever gets any progress from Moroso or whoever was going to make one for him.
