Driving gloves for autocross, what do you use?

I have a thoroughly worn to shreds pair of BMW lifestyle gloves that I can't find anymore, so I'm in the market.

Here are my old ones, thin and very breathable through the back of the hand area. I'd like something somewhat similar, but show me some ideas!

I use my hands.

I use the Racequip 350 series gloves. Under $30 on Amazon.

+1 tried my road racing gloves but they were more hindrance than help.

I bought some under armor "skilled player" football gloves. But my wheel is also wrapped in tennis racket grip. They seems to work well either way, so grippy.

While I use gloves for track driving, I never liked them for autocrossing. I'm not entirely sure why, other than it seemed to provide better feedback through the steering.

The starter probably thinks I'm a weirdo at events because I always lick my gloves right before launch. But that little bit of moisture makes them super sticky on the wheel. You can't beat that leather on leather grip of gloves, especially when your hands get sweaty.

I use batters gloves

Most guys I see use Mechanix gloves, or skin. A couple use mesh back driving gloves; what brands, I don't know. I prefer bare fingers, myself.

golf gloves are even better (thinner) … but they wear out VERY quickly

The way I've always seen it, none if you don't need a fire suit, once you need a fire suit, then wear sfi approved gloves.

Driving gloves harken back from a bygone era of thin rimmed wooden/bakelite steering wheels that were slippery/hard to hold onto. They do nothing in the modern age of fat rimmed leather/rubber wheels.

I only really wear gloves if I use my wheel, to avoid the finger removal risk (pinky cant fit into the hole of death if there's a glove over it), of if I'm driving a car with a swede wheel since you have to wear gloves with swede wheels or you ruin them.

my hand sweat A LOT … so even with the modern day steering wheel, I need some help with the grip … or else I'd have to grip so tightly that it would cause a huge loss of "feel"

My USFS issued flying gloves. They're just the standard US military issues Nomex aviator gloves. I wear my Nomex flight suit for track sessions as well.

Yea, well some of us still autocross cars with slipery wooden wheels in our classic cars. And some aftermarket wheels are also that cool, thin wood design.

I have some motorcycle gloves I got a BMW dealership. I was there having some R tires installed on my GTV when on a vacation. They are great.

I picked up a pair of these at a surplus store that I used for years... worked great and were light, breathed well. Fingers got worn out so looking for new ones, I think i'll try the Racequips posted earlier, I don't need SFI or anything so not looking to spend a fortune.

I have a pair of K1 sfi rated gloves that I use for autocross and track days. I tend to grip the wheel tightly so it cushions that a bit plus when its 100℉ and up the wheel is hot and hands sweat.

I don't use them for autocross, my wife likes cycling gloves - grip on the wheel at the palm yet fingerless for better feel (and not as hot)

Motocross gloves or football gloves work pretty well. I have sweaty hands, so I like gloves in most AutoX cars. Golf gloves, racquetball gloves, or batting gloves also work pretty well, but if you sweat a lot they get loose and bunchy. MX gloves seem to be able to take moisture and stay grippy.

no … I don't mean that they are discouraged … just that there isn't anything saying you SHOULD be using them … if your hands sweat … then maybe you should … if they don't … who cares

SCCA TT would require them … NASA TT won't

it's been 20 yrs since I played racquetball … when I played the gloves were buckskin and washable … is that still the case ?
