The gist of it is 2745 lbs FWD versus 3073 lbs for AWD.
I think the Diffrence is Giant Pig vs Skinny Pig.
My 1G AWD Talon feels like this...

Holy crap! They really should have called it the fat and the furious!
Under 3100lbs with AWD, intercooled turbo, iron block, glass hatchback, pretty large stock tires, etc. is somehow a pig? Considering the potential of the motor and the relative robustness of the drivetrain, I'd say they did alright.
Would have been perfect if they hadn't completely undersized the power steering pump.

this is most likely the reason they feel very heavy ... understeer like mad ... and generally give you a hell of a work out when driving... add a heavy clutch and sit way down in those seats with the high belt line and it feels like a tank.
Don't get me wrong compared to how much weight cars are carring today, DSMs are not that bad ... but in 1990 they could have done a better job at feeling lighter on their feet.
