I'm considering buying a Land Rover with a 4.6 for the wife to drive thru this coming winter. In the spring I can install the engine in a proper British car.

2013 and 2014 2.0Ts had some issues with pistons. There are a bunch of failed motors that have been replaced: http://www.atssociety.com/threads/gm-program-n140591-date-issued-dec-09-2014.151/
The failures seem to occur in stock as well as those modified with tunes. Avoid the Diablosport tune, as there seem to be a bunch of failures associated with that tune.
If you're buying used, don't buy one from an enthusiast.
I owned a v8 4th gen fbody. So yes. I'd say 90 percent of people that have them, have them for the drivetrain, they may not be planning on removing it later but they are driving it because of the drivetrain.
In reply to SilverFleet:
That's basically exactly why I bought my '05 GTO, except the plan was to use the drivetrain for the FD only if the car got wrecked. However, low mileage 05-06's have been holding their value pretty steadily and selling it intact seems the best option 2 years in.

This has also crossed my mind. I was thinking of making it into an autocrosser/track car later in life and relieving it from daily driver duty.
I was even thinking of swapping in a MS3 2.3 MZR drivetrain. I think it all bolts right in, and I will need to swap the fuel pump and possibly the tank. Again, dumb idea, but it's crossed my mind.
