EV West does similar things here in the US. I believe they even do bolt in conversions.

Yeah I drove one a couple years ago , one thing you never noticed is how loud a used gearbox sounds without the aircooled fan to cover it up.....

If the range works for you its a neat car , we drove down the coast on PCH about 20 miles and back ......

A late Super Beetle cabrio would be fun !

I like the idea of this. But I can't imagine driving an old Beetle without the air-cooled engine sound.

The article seems rather misleading that VW is doing these conversions, it looks to me they are simply providing the drivetrain

to the conversion company, that you pay to do the conversion to your VW.    VW itself has almost nothing to do with it,

but the article present it like VW itself will be selling them.

 

People have converted them to EVs for decades.
