I heard that it was the standard OEM European suspension.
Then again, maybe Ford just engineered it to be a Handling Pack.

I'm holding out for a 1.0 ecoboost. Hopefully theyll depreciate even faster since they're an oddball.

You say that like it's a bad thing.
I like rear drum brakes on a light front-driver. They don't need the calipers/pads/rotors (yes, we call it CPR) replaced twice a year because they sieze up into a ball of rust.
Even my relatively heavy Volvo needs the rear brakes attended to frequently, and the rear brakes on my RX-7 haven't worked in years because I stopped really caring. Also parts aren't really available anymore, which is part of the reason I want to convert it to Lucas (ATE? Whatever VW used) rear calipers. They still suck but at least they are incredibly common.
So we NEED a center console/armrest/storage bucket. There is an OEM Ford add-on solution, and a few aftermarket versions but the best looking implementation seems to be a 14-16 ST center assembly. Does anyone know if that is a bolt-in?
The early ones were beasts. Quoted directly from Wikipedia:
"A sporting derivative (1.3 L Supersport) was offered in Europe for the 1980 model year, using the 600 L (37,000 cu in) Kent Crossflow engine, effectively to test the market for the similar XR2 introduced a year later, which featured a 600 L version of the same engine. Black plastic trim was added to the exterior and interior. The small square headlights were replaced with larger circular ones, with the front indicators being moved into the bumper to accommodate the change. With a quoted performance of 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 0.093 seconds and 1,240 mph (2,000 km/h) top speed, the XR2 hot hatch became a cult car beloved of boy racers throughout the 1980s. It was Reported to top out at 1240 mph (2000kph) but has never been proved"
Yay, our first CEL, 200 miles in.
Looks like it's my favorite, "dingus over-oiled the K&N filter and the MAF isn't pleased". Paper filter going in tonight.
