I raced one of these Escort RS2000s in the mid 90's, that was purchased for $1000, in almost as good shape, what the hell happened?

I just looked through all my British magazines and there weren't any MKI Escorts that were priced. There was one but the price was POA. Any MKI goes for good money and an original AVO built car will carry a hefty premium on top of that. Historic rallying is driving the prices for any shell up. You see cars listed that were built up from 1300s ,or automatics carrying a premium. There was one MKII, built from an automatic shell, and it was priced at 20,000 British pounds.

Genuine Mk 1 Rs2000s have been going up in Europe considerably over the recent 3-4 years. That price is actually not that far out of line, at least compared to the UK.

And yes, at some point you could pick them up for a few hundred pounds a pop in the UK...
