Since the Dr. gave me the ok to lift 30 lbs since breaking my collar bone I have restarted some of my unfinished projects.
So on to the 1995 ej22 (it is an odb2, yes I am sure), it stalls when coming to a stop about 20 percent of the time. It's no longer in the subie, it's now connected to a acvw manual transaxle. It's running the factory computer, it was out of an automatic car, the trans contoller and its wiring have been removed. No cats or o2 sensors. I have 4 codes, all expected, both o2 sensor heater circuits, auto trans, and starter circuit(using the beetle starter and wiring).
Could it be the lack of the upsteam o2 sensor? I am not running a speed sensor either, could that be the issue ? Other possible causes?
I can't say for sure that all was fine before everything came out of the subie, only yard drove it before pulling, but believe it was fine.
Thanks
My initial thought is IAC as well, but if it was A-Ok before and now it's not I'm wondering if its another (missing) sensor input.

I would start with the O2 sensor and go from there. If it wants to idle in closed loop it will have a hard time without it.

O2 is on the do do list with the exhaust. Right now the exhaust consists of the fist 9 to 12 inches of the stock manafold a 45 degree elbow and 2 jegs knock off cherry bombs, highly in affective at that. Will need to get it to an exhaust shop for something custom and make sure they put a o2 bung in.
It could be the iac. The car had been sitting on a dirt drive way in Maine for a few months, then the engine on a stand in my garage for over a year and some things like the throttle seemed dry and sticky so I will have a look at the iac. Then again on another note when it's started cold it does the high idle for 30 second then idles down as expected. Still going to check.
Thanks all and keep the suggestions coming.
I know when I needed new O2 sensors in my disco, the thing was running pig rich, especially on acceleration. If I floored it, she would leave behind huge clouds of unburnt fuel. She also idled rough and would load up and "hunt" if left sitting too long running. I am thinking the new 02 sensors might correct your issues

Sputters or just dies? How does it smell when it dies?
Could be several things but sounds like iacv. If you take off the iacv plan ahead and have a gasket on hand FIRST! They expand under vacuum and don't like to ga back into place.

Sputters for 2 seconds then dies.
Not sure on the smell, I have been concerned with getting out of the way of traffic. Getting out of the car takes to long, will need a partner to run behind me to check for the smell. Lol.
I have only about 10 miles on it since getting it to a semi drivable point. Hope to put a couple more test runs in and get more data.

I was just curious if the gas smell was overpowering. You would smell it inside the car for sure. Is it chugging or hunting idle?

No smell of gas. With every thing behind the rear axel I am not sure I would smell it with oit a tail wind. No chugging, just a stumble, like it misfired on a couple cylinders for a couple seconds, then dead.
