Cross posting this from the CM forum since it doesn't seem to get as much traffic.

So I've been watching this on my local craigslist for the last couple weeks and think I might go take a look at it and make a lowball offer. What am I getting myself into?
I cannot find much info on these cars online. Ebay doesn't list very many used parts, but rockauto seems to have a decent list of parts available.
From what I gather it should have a 3R engine, is this related to the venerable 22R? Possible swap? It seems like mechanicals shouldnt be too much of a problem, but trim parts, etc might be unobtainable.
Cars around here don't rust very badly (southern utah = arid desert) and the car's been stored indoors since 1992.
I have been itching for a fun project to tinker with and drive 1 mile to work and back.
Thanks for the advice!
If it was the coupe body I would be racing out there to snap it up.
I love those things.
IMO that sedan is too cool and uncommon to not save. It ticks all the boxes for me.

It seems like Toyota's version of the Cortina. I like it. It would be a great car for a 4AGE and 5 speed swap. Swap in newer Toyota suspension parts if brakes or shocks are hard to come by. Keep the inside looking like it does and fit as much performance tire you can on the stock wheels or something that looks stockish.
Boy, I haven't seen one of those things for probably 40 years.

It's not you - they are terrible photos.
I also worry when sellers post E36 M3ty pictures like that.

For that asking price you need to go check it out!
When I was a teenager a friend had a latter model corona as a field car, it may have made me what I am today
That was my parents third car after emigrating to canada from Britain. The first two were Austin mini's and I thought the corona was very cool because it had two wing mirrors and actual roll down windows so we could go to the drive on and get the window tray. (Minis had sliding windows)
But it was on the scrap heap within a few years.

Sweet. Too bad it isn't a coupe, but still cool. If you could swap an engine and get the seals and gaskets sorted for say $2k-$2.5k it would be all good.
Go look and tell us what it's like up close
Ah, why low ball at that price? Old Japanese iron is going up in value. With a manual that looks like a fair price.
looks like the love child of a Volvo and an Alfa..
That's really cheap for a Corona. Look on JNC forums and see how popular they are.
Clean up on aisle 5...drooling moron !
