OK, I can't help myself. Everyone here can empathize with me, I know. My garage is already full of projects, two to be precise. I'm also saving towards buying myself a new DD sometime within the next 12 months. I joked with my wife a few months ago that if I could find a cheap car that was worth parting/flipping on CL so I can make a few bucks towards my car fund, I'd go for it. Surprisingly, she didn't throw anything at me or give me "the look". So I always keep my eyes open.

Came across this yesterday, and have first dibs at it. http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/2927417134.html The guy raised his price a lot on CL a few hours after he posted it because he said he got a ton of e-mails, but promised he'd sell it to me at the original price. He says clutch was replaced about 20k miles ago and the car runs well. I asked about the brake issue and he said the car stops fine, but pedal is soft.

What would I do with it? Dunno. Part it? Fix the brakes and flip it? Make a track day car out of it (least likely option)? I called a few local yards to see what they'd pay for it, and quotes were around $250. Seems low. Anyone know what scrap metal dealers pay if I were to part it and scrap the rest? I know my garage is already full and I have little free time, but if I can make a few hundred bucks, then mission accomplished.

Fix and flip. Don't part/scrap a good working affordable car. I almost want to make an offer.

If you part it how much for those rims?

If its an ABS car you need the DRB scan tool to bleed it correctly. That car is way to nice to part.

If by some miracle that thing really only needs the brakes sorted, buy it and flip it. Seems to me that if it is as described, they're giving it away.

I worked my local CL for two months and couldn't find anything near that well kept and cheap.

Fix and flip, or keep for the high 30's highway mpg.

I once got 44mpg on a sohc Neon driving from Chicago to Columbus. They're really economical highway driving cars!!

[that assumes it's a stick. The autos are evil.]

Buy it and drive it, or buy it and flip it. Most Neons of that vintage around here look like they've spent their 17 years doing military transport duty in a Guatamalan jungle.
