erratic megasquirt timing

Oh, no relay board. Diyautotune harness, and my iwn relay center for the fuel pump, ecm, etc. 

ok, my msq says ms2/extra release 3.3.3

this is not 3.57

could this be the root of the issue? the settings are the same as far as both manuals go, and the wiring is the same as well. 

just seems that this should be a well trodden megasquirt path with it being all basic GM stuff.....

The 3.57 is the version of the board, not the firmware.  Confusing, I know.

An update of the MSEXtra firmware to 3.4.2 wouldn't hurt since it matches the documentation, generally fixes some issues, etc. and its often the first step people on the MSExtra forums will tell you to do.

Also it means that you have to follow the manuals in the MSExtra site, not the Megamanual site as they are different and can cause confusion.

So, ignore the Megamanual stuff, go through the MSExtra documentation and see if you can make what you currently have work.

Verify that TunerStudio is configured as specified in the MSExtra documentation.

Verify the wiring matches the MSExtra documentation.

Then follow the instructions for first start/ignition timing.

See where that gets you.

If it still doesn't work, then can you do some datalogging that you can upload to google drive or dropbox, etc that we could take a look at?

If you really want to ditch the HEI8 module, that can be done.  You could even do LS coils if you want, but those would require wiring changes, etc.

So lets see if we can get the HEI8 working and go from there.

Awesome.  Ill update firmware once i figure out how, and run through the entire harness/setup menu again.

Id much rather make what i have work. 

Part of the issue is that this ha been such an on again off again project that i have to relearn everything every time i work on it. Im trying to stay focused on it at this point to get the issues resolved, and then begin to have someone help me tune. But we need to get the ignition issues to go away before steve comes over.
