That was my case at today's Test n Tune event. One other SS was registered, but never showed up and didn't respond to messages the night before by the event official. Another SS came by to spectate with his dog, and took over so I could get a few runs in around 3pm finally.
I was just curious how often it happens? (AX, not a SS yet for RX but curious about RX occurrences)
If there’s only one SS on track, I’m not running.
For RX, yes. It sucks.
By the time the other guy came by, I seriously thought about just getting a refund and not running at all. Should have. After freezing for 6 hours I messed up all 4 runs anyway.
(They were talking about having people stop everything, shut off cars, etc to let me run earlier. Nope, not a good idea...)
It's happened a couple of times for me (AX not RX). So we got serious as a club and got a bunch of people trained up.
Our tiny little chapter (about 30 person turnout at most events) has 4-6 people trained as safety stewards, and we also have a couple people from a neighboring chapter who show up frequently and are trained as safety stewards. So we never have that issue. And knowing how a few of our stewards are, I doubt they'd let us run if there was only 1 present.
