The Florida State Fairgrounds are in Tampa, right off I-4. There's a giant amphitheater there. We saw Van Halen perform there last month.
Go back 25 years, and they had a race track at the fairgrounds, too:

JG and I have checked Google Earth. It's pretty much all there, too, just hiding in plain sight.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
In addition to the road course used for the IMSA races in the late Eighties, they had a half mile dirt oval where the amphitheater now stands. I raced there in the Super Six division. More recently (2001?) SCCA autocrosses were held on portions of the old road course. A truck driving school still uses some of the old road course.
I'm going to be there this weekend for the NSRA Street Rod show. Now I'll need to cruise around and take a ceremonial lap.
I don't remember this track. Closest I can do is the glorious break from winter to come down to MacDill AFB in Tampa for the season opening Pro Solos way back when. Sheesh, there might have even still been tennis balls on cones at those events.....

And I'm sure you've already inquired about about the cost to rent the whole facility for a weekend to do some "testing"?
I've been on the Tampa International Raceway. Is that what they call 616 to 600 to 580 to 589 these days? Nailed the apexes in a rental Nissan Juke. Gotta watch out for trading paint. And you best be wearing your helmet at 0800.
It was a cool race. First year it was a non-points type deal pitting Croup C cars against GTP cars. After that is was a striaight up race. Also featured Firehawk and Barber Saab and maybe pro Sports 2000 or something like that. And some vintage, although not the vintage show that St. Pete had at the time.
Before I worked for the mag, I worked for Chilis until 1990. They would support some of my autocross travel and I would crew for them in Florida as they were attached to Pombo Racing. Got to meet tom Cruise (nice guy. Intense. My height). First year I did boring stuff in the pits. Hold the gas line, right stuff on a clipboard. Necessary, but boring.
The next year I got promoted. I was already at GRM in 1990, so they figured I was capable of actual work, so I was in charge of local logistics. Basically this mean that if anyone on the Pombo team wanted something: From a dip in the gulf or bay, to water skiing, to good cuban food to a fun pace to see a movie, that was me.
Also got a mission to drain the fuel from one of the 300ZXs. "Where's the tools?" I asked. "Ahh, you can empty it in 20 minutes or less if you hammer on it. That ya longer than that to find a pan."
Can't argue with that logic.
Did a similar position at Sebring for a test day when Cruise was driving with them. He was fast but hard on brakes. Real skill, but more like autocross skill. Needed the right guy to shape that natural ability into patience.
Took him to a movie and didn't go in. After the show it was one of my great regrets because he was like "Why didn't you go? I made up some bulcrap excuse. "Look, if they told you you couldn't go, ignore them. If I se a movie I better have someone to talk about it with.
