Those things are squirrely.  I would be terrified trying to drive most of them.

Well that's not a subjective or anything. I like rotary noises. Neiner, neiner.

That said, I wouldn't really like to be in the lane next to one of those squirrely bastards.

okay I managed to make it to the five minute mark pretty damn wide eyed too I must say.  Yeah I don't get the pristine stock bodywork narrow track squirrelly launch that ends up destroying said pristine bodywork with a roll or kiss to the Jersey barrier even after feathering the throttle like a hot potato.  Impressive level of power though.  Very impressive.  I have a memory of talking to an Aussie about insane small bore antics down there whilst drinking beer in Austin circa 2k.  The MkII Escort looked fairly nice. smiley

Bees, angry angry bees. 13b's to be precise.

The Ozzies and Ricans are absolutely nuts with their rotaries.

10:04.  There's a big ol roots blower sticking out of the hood.  That's something I haven't seen on a rotary before.  awesome.

I sure enjoyed the fact that he bought a Rotary to see what made it tick and the dream was born. His passion evolved into a booming business.

Kind of interesting and not something I had thought of but there’s really only Mazda rotaries to work with. There no aftermarket engine companies like there are for pushrod V8’s

I remember watching a video of the PAC 20B RX-3 a while back and it looked like they deliberately steered the rear axle to the left so that when launching the majority of the car's weight was on the right side.  Car was pointed to the right all the way down the track.

An RX-3 is 5-6 inches narrower than a Miata, for what it's worth.

And then you have this guy:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjKMBirA3m8

RX-3 doorslammer in the 6s with a two rotor.  Looks like the front tires don't touch the ground until after 3rd gear.  Now THERE'S good chassis setup, if it's stable past the 660 while carrying the fronts....

That's the problem with playing with rotaries.  The only people who made hard parts were Mazda, and they shut off all production of older parts when they started making the RX-8 seventeen years ago, so everything is drying up or dried up.  Nobody makes rotors, nobody makes rotor housings.  Side housings can be rebuilt to an extent, if you are playing with pre'86 engines.   Racing Beat also makes new side housings, if you have suitcases full of cash lying around.  Rotors and rotor housings are wear items, so when they are gone, they're gone.

Makes me wistful when people talk about the pre-RX-7 era when you could buy brand new rotor housings for fifty bucks.  Even adjusted for inflation that is seriously cheap compared to today.

Okay a few points:

That burnout at 10:10 was a top 5 burnout I've ever seen.

I love crazy rotarys in little cars. Those cars were like baby rabbits on cocaine with a hive of bees up their ass.

I absolutely loved how these untamed beast still had beautiful body work knowing they could hop into a wall any second.

What's the lightest rwd car you can buy here in the states?

How much power can one extract out of a NA 13B?

For drag use?  I have "heard" of 450hp on methanol, after a lot of testing and experimentation and more testing.
