So, looking for ideas on how to quiet down an exhaust when I don't have a lot of ground clearance. It sounds great, but is just too loud for longer drives.
Here is the car project;

The exhaust looks like the blurry picture below, but now under the car. It's only about an inch beneath the floor in most places, less in some. It's all 2.5" pipe with a single magnaflow muffler in the back. There isn't really room for something much bigger back there between the gas tank and spare tire well. The muffler is 4"X9" I would have room for something taller, but not longer or wider.
Here it is under the car
I was originally thinking of putting in resonators towards the rear, but the smallest bullet resonators are still 4" in diameter. I then thought of replacing the x-pipe with a really short dual in-out muffler, thoughts? Is there a "flat" resonator? Should I think about adding "racing" cats?(Assuming I can actually get them in California) I added turn-down type tips that have helped some.
Someone mentioned some kind of baffle, but I've not been able to find anything in 2.5"..
Other thoughts on getting rid of drone?
Just put a screw baffle inside the pipe like they do with bikes. Cost next to nothing and you can make then yourself if you need to. Will cut ~6db out no clearance issue and no modifications to the mounting.
Potentially important question.... Is the loudness of the exhaust coming from the tailpipe, or from drone?
If its from the tailpipe, you can do a dynatech insert like this
If its drone, you kinda gotta do a resonator... or a quieter muffler at the risk of reducing flow.
I had a drone that I took care of by extending the tail pipe 4" past the rear bumper.

So, it's definitely drone, not overall volume from the tailpipe. I need to add resonator(s) somewhere along the way. The magnaflow at the rear is nearly a straight through design. Do I add two "bullet" style resonators, or a dual-in-out muffler/resonator? Any experts know what each design does for sound?
Dynomax maxes a dual in/out x-pipe muffler.
I also got rid of drone by fabbing a pair of ricer cannon plugs for my 3 inch duals.
Can you show the tailpipe as mounted? I found with the Yugo (sidepipe, glasspack) extending the pipe a few inches out past the pinch weld significantly reduced cabin noise, to a point you could do highway work without earplugs. You might also look at installing a turndown.
