I’m looking for an externally mounted fuel pump to supply an LT1 in a challenge car. The car never had fuel injection and there are not many cheap options for an in tank pump. Hopefully there is something out there I can pick up at the junk yard. I’ve seen a few LT1’s at the challenge in random vehicles. What did you guys use?
I've heard great things about ford pick-up external inline pumps....

i used the intank from my caprice. however i would image a walbro 255 would be fine...i've used it on various other fuel injected engine swaps. you can get a new one from $75 and i think there are some stock inlines that are similiar in specs you could grap in a junkyard

+1...if you're using a stockish LT1, it should be adequate and available for near-free at your local U-Pull. Look for them along the frame rail, under the cab, on 80s fuel injected rigs IIRC. It's easiest to just walk along Ford trucks at the yard looking for injected ones, when you spot an old injected one follow the fuel lines and you'll find the pump. I have used one on my Volvo 122 megasquirt conversion, it was very easy to work with. I got the bracket from the truck complete with rubber grommets for the mounting hardware and it's actually fairly quiet compared to most external pumps.
