And what was actually being sold was a crankshaft.
What makes it worse was my search term was Corvette, search from low price to high price.
The first 30 maybe 40 listing had nothing to do with Corvettes.
What a cesspool.

I am starting to suspect that the search function is bad on purpose to keep you on their site longer. As bad as Craigslist sellers were back before marketplace took over, at least the search engine actually showed you what you were looking for.

I usually think that sort of statement is a step too far for plausibility, but they clearly follow whatever the data says about what keeps people clicking. It could be that they started to fix it and the data said "nope, we lose clicks." I'm less sure about whether the incompetence in things like thinking KBB is a sane limit for pricing and stuff like that is intentional or just because the marketplace team doesn't understand the submarkets. I mean, I'm not sure about any of it either way, but none of it improves my mood.
Fake book also has the trash ads that all day "ships to you". At least a billion of those to sift through while trying to find something actually local AND pertinent to your search results.
Offer up isn't any better. I downloaded that stupid app in hopes of someone actually doing it right. Nope. Same algae, different cesspool. F YOU Facebook. F YOU Craigslist. F YOU offer up. F you internet.
this REALLY illustrates the need for someone to make a Real selling website without any ads, no Chinese sellers, no tainted search engine, and no paid anything.
In reply to Vajingo :
That means sellers would have to pay to place their ad. Craigslist and FB have killed that, no one is willing to pay to place an ad anymore.
Now I just use GRM. Took me a year to sell my FL 50, but I didn't get one single scam call, and no total azz hats had to be tolerated!
And FBM has that super-annoying "is it available" quick text button that 150 people will press just for the hell of it and when you respond with "yes," suddenly..... ghost crickets.
I list any of my ads with "will not respond to is it available." And I don't.
CL is mostly dead around here. It used to be the go-to and I don't think many people use it. If I'm searching for a fridge I might find 50 on FB and 4 or 5 on CL.
OfferUp is a scam from start to finish. It puts ads in your face and asks you to pay money to "boost." They also have bots that send messages to devalue whatever you're selling. If you want a good laugh, post something for super cheap, like snag a picture of a corvette off the internet and list it on OfferUp for $200. You'll get a couple bot messages that say "will you take $100?" The bots don't pay attention to what it is, they just generically send messages with offers of less than asking price.

But Craigslist started out as free. How'd they do that? However Craigslist did it, just repeat them. Then when you get an offer to sell out, do so. Retire early, and let google ruin the website, thus repeating history.

In fairness I think the is it available is either glitchy or they send it without acknowledging or send it one click, because I've had people respond as if I've sent a "is it available message" on things that I did not and would not have asked if it was available.
I've been searching for a specific 1960s car, one that is not particularly valuable. I've seen far more listed on FBM than on C-list. However, the two I've inquired about on FBM were either unresponsive (ad is still up, BTW) or the seller was about impossible to deal with.
Nearly bought one on C-list but got beat out because I was 4 hours away.
I loved C-list, especially using Search Tempest. FBM's search functions are about as useful as making random calls to people out of the phone book asking if they have what I'm looking for.
One thing that I have noticed recently is that I can't send a response without sending "is this still available" first. If I type a custom message instead it never works. It's so stupid.

If I had a nickel for every time I sent a legit question like "how many miles?" and got the response of "yes, it's available," I would have a lot of nickels.
Ugh, yeah, FBM. It's basically just a pile of stuff that you have to sort through. Good or bad, it's where people are selling their stuff. (And I have sold stuff there, too, so it has worked for me.)
I'm pretty pissed at Facebook for placing their strategies ahead of quality of user experience. If there was one thing above all that I'd like them to change it would simply be to list search results like most other sites. Can you imagine what a cluster f--k Google would be if when you searched on, say "hamburgers" most of the results were for Indian food, hot dogs, tacos, tofu and pizza?
The more things change...
I really hoped that- while I don't agree with FB AT ALL as a company and would delete my account if it wasn't for the market- the act of needing a public profile was going to make FB Market better than CL, but it seems like that isn't the case whatsoever. Already this month i've had 2 no answer/no response on rare things I really want.
Maybe I should stick to GovDeals, they're legally required to respond.
Just remember when something is free, you are the product. They are making money off you.
And some their algorithm and profit models are all about clicks and time. They don't care if the product works for you.
I have a deep seeded hatred for FB market. Especially since here in Canada we have Kijiji, which is a really easy site for finding what you want. It's hard to believe so many people are moving from it to a platform as bad as FB.
Yes.
Marketplace is practically useless for searching, and it's my last choice if I'm looking for something, but somebody is using it. I have had excellent luck selling. Though if I have anything worth real money, on Kijiji it goes

I have a tendency to hit that stupid button by accident since I'm always on a touch screen device anymore. Then I feel bad for being "that guy."
Marketplace overall is a massive POS, top to bottom, in pretty much every respect. I held out on Team CL as long as I could, but unfortunately FB is where the market is nowadays.
Forget Marketplace, has anyone else noticed that FB has decided to change your feed in the last day or 2? There were groups I'm a member of, but never interact with, that completely started clogging my feed. I left several & unfollowed others, but some of them are still showing up & I'm seeing 3-5 day old posts from friends now too.
Count me in the masses that have found on FBM a rare, but not particularly valuable car they want to buy, but the seller refuses to respond...
Through some internet sleuthing, I believe I have identified the car's location, and am very tempted to make the 3 hour drive to knock on a door. Not knowing if the seller holds a clear title is really the only thing stopping me...
