This is about the coolest thing I've ever seen:
http://www.factoryfive.com/hotrodhome.html
The video of it autocrossing was pretty amazing - the thing looks much more capable than the Cobra kit. But what class would it run in? I know the Cobra kit runs in XP, but only due to it's (distant) relationship with the originals. Would SCCA put the hot rod in B Mod?

I've been drooling over that, too. Aside from the initial kit price, it could be built pretty economically.
I'm used to seeing Cobra replicas in E modified alongside the Locosts; I think the Hot Rod would go there, too.
With one of these, you'd be the coolest guy at the track day, too.

I've been contemplating building a complete tube frame with real suspension for my '31 sedan, just to surprise people. Adding to the pile of ambition needed for this project that's barely off the ground, though, is probably unwise.
I do like this concept, though.
I've always wanted to build a car that combines the aesthetics of a hot rod with the mechanicals of a track car. I was thinking a track-T roadster with a Corvette suspension, but what FFR has done here is pretty much what I was thinking. Really very cool.
Um. Berkeleying WOW. The FF Cobra never really did much for me (sorry,) but this is making me drool.
After seeing that old Chevy on a Corvette frame that was at the 07 Challenge I've been pondering the idea of doing it with a f/g 41 Willys body. Have a street rod I could take to the track. This sound like the perfect alternative.
I'm still sad that FF discontinued the spyder, that one was hot

Um, isn't that sort of like being the coolest guy at a Dungeons and Dragons or Star Trek convention?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Love it. Now if only I were rich and had a garage I could tie up for a year.

Can't say I like that car. The proportions are all wrong compared to a good original or even repop '33 Ford. The greenhouse isn't even close and the flat stance isn't right for a hot rod.
Something about it doesn't get my juices flowing, as it were. I can certianly understand the market, my g/f is certainly interested in it, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Of course, this is the guy who doesn't really like LoCosts, so take that as you will. I'd much rather turn a wrecked late model Cobra into one of those sweet, sweet Cobra Coupes they offer.
New fenders. And it looks good!
Damn. Thanks a pantoad. I've got a rat-rod on the brain again. I'll never afford/wouldn't spend the cash if I could on the FF kit, though it is stinkin' cool. BUT I love and hate John Haas and Co. for building the 49, as something similiar is on my long "to-do" list now. From my weekly CL search:

not to be starting a fight, but I think that you're missing the point:
-It's not a replica. of course the proportions are different
-This site is dedicated to cars that handle well. The stink-bug stance that many traditional rods have doesn't help turning ability a whit. Many if not most traditional hot rods are veritable death traps in the twisties.

You're absolutely right about traditional hot rod stance being lousy for handling. Nonetheless I look at that car the same way I'd look at a Porsche sitting with a gasser stance. It may be for performance but it just doesn't seem to fit the car. I'd rather have the FFR Cobra or whatever Carroll demands it be named these days.

Fair enough. It's all personal. I used to be a big Cobra guy, but they're so common anymore, they barely turn my head. Also at the track days I've attended, a well-driven and sorted spec-Miata will usually take a Cobra. A good restomod or rat still turns my head tho.
Poopshovel: what search parameters do you use? I fin it dreary going year-by-year through CL.

Year by year is all I can come up with. Fortunately, there are rarely more than 5 results per search 1930-1949.

You poor bugger. Come out to Kalifornia, and there's probably 200 vehicles in those years. Of course, you won't be able to afford any because your house payments will be $3k/month

Now THAT's pimpin' a ride!
I have seen the factory Five ad in GRM over and over and I love the cobra, but never paid any attention to the hot-rod. It just didn't look that interesting. I just look at the pics on the website and I lover it. I love the idea of being able to pull the top off.
I also really like the idea of a good handling hotrod. I love the challenge volksrod, something quick in a straight line, able to corner carve and two different looks with the drag and autocross tires.
if I were going to build a kit, it would certainly be a westfield lotus XI...but maybe with GSX-R power...

I like the FF hot rod kit as well... although if I'm ever able to build one of those kits, I lean towards the coupe... I just like the idea of a more "all-weather" car...
