I am looking at getting 2 sets of Azensis. 1 set for my daily driven SiR , another for my GRM car so I can put some miles on it.

I am Canadain , but live close to the border so I will be bringing them across.

I need to know the counrty of origin so I can determine the duty on them. No one can seem to tell me. Even discount tire said "We'll get back to you"

Any ideas?

I want to say the country of origin on the set I bought like 4 years ago was Korea, but That may have changed, and I could be remembering it incorrectly.

Can you drive across the border, mount them, then drive back home? You could avoid the duty that way, couldn't you?

I can do that on 1 set.. I hope to get 2 sets if the duty isn't too bad.

You "could" but you don't want to get caught. I bought a set of REO1's, and had them in the car when I crossed the border. I had paid less than my "weekend limit" for them, so no duty was necessary.

Falken is a subsidiary of the Sumitomo & Ohtsu conglomerate, which is/are a Japanese company. That said, by no means are all their factories located in Japan. They have manufacturing facilities throughout the world, including the US, especially various subsidiary companies. I do not know what factories make what tires.

Now fold into it the separation of tire carcass from tire tread and case. The two are frequently not made at the same location.

Hmmm,. pretty sure all car parts are duty free. I've ordered LOTS of stuff, driven across and picked it up and headed back 20 mins later. Only GST, regardless of COO.

Under NAFTA, parts made in North America can cross borders, essentially duty free, but not foreign made parts.

I pick up all sorts of tires etc from the US. You will have to pay gst and pst, but no duty. If you're looking for a place to ship stuff to by the border, I have place that I use a lot. It's orion in Lewiston and they are great.
