Saw this on a Japanese importer site. I know 323 GTX is kind of a car people here are interested in at times. This is the generation after what we got and has a lsd center instead of a locking differential and a BPT.
Didn't know these were made in 89. Has like 70,000 miles.
This is a rarer car and there are a few Mazda fans here so I figured i'd post it. When I do see these sell over there it's between $1500 and $4000. GTX or GT-R.
I'm thinking of getting this... cheap awesome awd turbo rhd mazda.... almost can't resist.
Does it have the same glass transmission as the 323 GTX had? AFAIK parts for that trans are unobtainium.
If it does, then I would budget for a spare transmission or for some sort of treatment to extend its longevity, like cryogenic, shot-peening, and/or WPC.
For some ideas, here is an article detailing WPC and cryo treatment on a Nissan SR20 FWD transmission, which is also notoriously fragile.

I don't really have any info about the GTX, but I have a friend who might still have a LHD GTX of the same vintage. I'll send you a PM.
so this isn't about this GTX then?

People swap out that transmission for this one i've been told.
It's not the same thing at all. This is a generation after the car we got here and everything is stronger.
Familiar 323 GTX
Not sold in US Familia GTX
The Familia GTR is known to have a strong transmission and this car is identical to that in most ways, i'm sure it could be swapped in if this is weak.
The link in the OP says you need to be a member to view the site, does it look like this?
Looks like a next Gen version of the 323 GTX that we had, not bad.
Get it. As for gearbox concerns, if you really like the car and want to hold onto it and keep it, this is the way to go. http://www.par-engineering.com/Products/Catalog/CatID/138/GSeries_G5MR.aspx
go with the 4.43 for rocket excelleration.

sorry.

I looked at the sales history and they have had as mayn GTX and GTR in the past year so i'm almost debating on waiting for a GTR to pop up since they sell for not much more. In fact as I type that this is route I probably want to go. Everywhere I look says the GTR gearbox is bulletproof so it probably would be worth it.
I didn't know these started production in 1989 so pairing this with the Skyline i'm waiting to receive this upcoming fall i'll feel like some JDM fanboy or something.
GTR also has massive and ridiculous foglights like later pre-US evo.
These are like 2600-2800lbs or so, might make my WRX feel redundant.
so you can sell the WRX then ;)
I'm curious how much shipping and insurance would be. I love my BG 323 with a BPT, and would love a GTR, now you really have me wondering...

Well i'm in the west coast and this is figures, on the bottom, to buy a 93 Supra + shipping and fees to there:

Confirmed with the person running this company in email.
He also told me he could get me a Skyline GTR 14,000-15,000 to the door if i bought a 12000 car.
The last Familia GTR sold was $3800 so I could probably get it to me for less than $6000.
This site is reputable as well, all the canadian "jdm bro" sites suggest him.
I should note that these are all auctions.
Also I heard insurance was more expensive and only certain companies will insure. For example with the Skyline. Geico told me that they would not. Allstate said they would. USAA also said they would.
There is a lot of interesting stuff available. Someone bought a 40,000KM Delta Integrale 16v from there for $6000 and there is one for up for auction soon but I don't know if i'm read for a complex italian car, lol. Skyline and this Familia share a lot of parts with USDM cars.
I'm betting haggerty would also insure them, but with pretty strict mileage requirements.
I wouldn't have a problem getting a GTX for $6000 and putting another 4-6K into it to get it exactly how i'd want it. I already have a mountain of spares for the engine. Considering the only thing new that i'd compare it too isn't AWD, the fiesta st, and is 20k.

Yes, when you said sell the WRX i was thinking the same. I could spend that $18-$22k on refreshing both the skyline and the familia and pocket the change.
