Budget 10-15, Really like the Hemi charger but my friend suggested a impala ss.... The fwd one. I found one local for 7,500 with 120000 on the clock. Learn me!

I know I would enjoy the charger more than the impala. Also I believe that the trans in the impala is right on the limit with the stock power, have to spend some money if you want it to live with more power.

I found a plum crazy srt in my price range, I turned it down due to the 24 in rims with 4 different brand tires on each corner. That tells me it was run on a budget... Which makes me think maintenance was low priority. Also I want to check out a WRX but autotrader says no one buys them in a 100 mile radius lol

As a former/recovering W-body owner, I have to laugh at the suggestion of the Impala V8 (I can't call it an SS as that implies sport, which this car is not at all about). The Impala did not review well because of torque steer and such. The Grand Prix that got the same engine was geared so tall to quell the torque steer that I believe 1st gear was good for something like 74mph. These cars are also from an era where the accountants really ran things at GM (although that's always been the case to some degree). If you can find one and want to see what it's like then go test drive but I always thought these were, frankly, bizarre mistakes as products. The W-body platform seems like the perfect home for the old 3.8 V6 (although that engine saw some reliability challenges at certain stages as well).

I don't know how large you want but I'd probably go looking for a BMW 3-series or the 5-series. Your price range should get you into something pretty nice, I think.

What about a 2010-up Taurus SHO? They can be had in the $15k range

I scoff at the idea of the Impala SS. As the (unfortunate) owner of a Malibu of 2004 vintage.. I have not found such a modern car to be so lacking in steering, braking, or handling feel before. Even the old land yachts my Father used to buy were not as bad as this small car.

It does have decent power though

In reply to mad_machine:

As a previous W body owner, the Malibu has nothing in common with them, including driving feel.

Basically anything with 4 doors works for the OP...

I think the big factor is mpg. I'd go with whatever car is newest, make/model be damned if mpg is not a factor. The build quality and technology available in new cars is so astoundingly high nowadays. Powah! is all relative as well, 300hp anything is pretty dang quick.

G37 sedans and Genesis sedans are in that price range. I'd go something foreign over duhmestic, mainly because the charger et all are "ok" cars, not great cars. Comfort and quality trumps power for a DD that has to haul people around IMO.

Charger got some terrible reviews for reliability. Same with its cousin. Trans modules apparently go bad. Awd seems to be the worst for gremlins. Mali"boooooo"- no way.

Subdue fits. What about a early 2009's legacy gt? Throw some cash at it and have a fun, capable, reliable, family hauler.

OK, went to drive said v8 impala. Not bad in a straight line... The steering was very vague and seemed slow. Ride was way too soft, felt like a Buick. Pass on that. So I looked at a lot of cars today while checking out the SS. Drove a 2010 maxima, steering was nice and quick but the dash was sticky for some reason. Also it was a CVT but had paddle shifters? Going to check out the G35/7 sometime this week. Also a new car popped in my head, thoughts on TDI VW products? Manual trans of course

That M5 is tempting, but I've done my share of rear wheel bearings on my last E36 to pass lol

He said he wanted a powerful four door sedan. What's the RX-8 doing in this thread? I second the G35 suggestion if BMW is somehow wrong (seriously, what? Rear wheel bearings is your fear?).
