According to Guy Moerenhout they did exist. He would know better than anyone.
By the time that the 127 was released Abarth had been bought by Fiat and was no longer the independent car maker/tuner that made them so legendary. Fiat could produce a hotted up factory version of anything and slap abarth on it.
Not saying that Fiat slapped the name on any cars undeservedly. The Ritmo Abarths and 131 Abarths are awesome cars. But a pre-71 Abarth is a different creature.

When I was in Sicily in the '70s, I rented a 127 (the first series, like the white one in the bottom photo). The first time in 1972 (I had never heard of the 127, but I seem to remember the rent and fuel made the next larger car SUPER expensive on a per day basis.) the second time in 1974.
I never saw, and have never heard of an Abarth version (doesn't mean it can't exist) but I do remember that all the 127s I saw while in Sicily were usually one of 3 colors: red (same shade as Campbell's tomato soup), a not quite forest green, and a butter yellow. All had a sort of orangey-brown interior. For such a small car, not too cramped behind the wheel for a young, 6 ft 4 tourist. Only letdown? a sort of "rubbery" shift mechanism.
