Is there enough meat on the stock hubs to re-drill them for 4x100?
Not really, though it has been done:

I like the idea of drilling the existing holes off center and using a press in stud of a larger base diameter like this method

That seems a good way, but it prevents you going back to 4 x 98 though.
If you don't like the idea of drilling the hubs and losing the 4x98 bolt circle, there's nothing to keep the hubs from being redrilled at 45 degrees to the original bolt circle for a 4x100 bolt circle and those holes tapped for 12 x 1.50 wheel bolts. That way you can use the original wheel bolts to hold 4x100 wheels on and it's super easy to go back to the 4x98 setup. Of course you need to drill the rotors the same way...
There are two big flats on a Fiat hub. 45 degrees won't work. You will have to go just enough that they fit.
hotlinks seem to be blocked for any site selling Fiat hubs. Click this

It is doable, You just have to bunch the holes up.
I have gone over how to do this a few hundred times. I have a whole machine shop at my disposal and am not afraid to dive into things but I am still using PCD Variation bolts. They work, are inexpensive, perfectly safe and reversible if that is important.
Fiat Volumex Rims.. 15" diametre (not sure on the width)
Might be the last set at Bruce's..$420 a piece.

Anyone on www.fiatspider.com? I tried joining last Friday, I got the common you need to be approved by an admin to prove your not a spam bot reply and waited over the weekend. Nothing, so yesterday I replyed to the automaticaly generated admin address with a personal note to prove I'm a human, including a link to this thread started by me with the same user name I'm trying to register there. Still nothing. I can't see the classified ad's unless I'm a member. Can anyone over there poke someone please?

If I could get them in 17 I'd put them on the Abarth. They make reproductions now, they might offer them in 14, not sure.

Todays question. LSD's, what if anytihng is available and how much $$'s? Is there something comon that swaps in (good), or are you stuck with buying new at $1k +/- (bad)?
Collotti ($$$) or lada units (http://www.ladaworld.com/product_info.php?products_id=47) ($$). Swaps for rear ends are Ford 9" narrowed, BMW IRS, older Lancia rear ends, those are just what I've read about...
