When I heard that news, and how they had to deal with one family to try to find the land, it makes me shiver that it will not happen.  The Maroon family has been a poor owner of land in metro Detroit.

Then again, given GM is closing a plant right downtown, FCA should cut a deal with them.  Save a lot of effort and time with a factory in place already.  And FCA has to deal with Unions regardless of where they go.  Make people happy that they keep a job.

I was honestly shocked to hear this. I just assumed FCA was going to tank sometime in the next decade, completely based on what I hear regarding resale and reliability, and how few FCA vehicles I see on the road. Are they actually doing well?

I mostly see GM and Ford, but I guess I see a fair amount of Rams as well now that you mention it. But for every 20 cars I see, MAYBE one is an FCA product.

FCA makes a bunch of money off Jeeps.

Two new Jeeps coming.   They need space to build them.

In reply to A 401 CJ :

So the YJs from '87 to '91 aren't Jeeps?

What about the ones built in Canada through the '60s?

Or the 79 and 80 CJs, that were also built at Brampton?

Jeeps are selling like hotcakes right now, an advantage of the new pro-SUV market. And a lot of the magazines are saying the new 2019 Rams are the best truck on the market, even better than the Fords, which kind of surprised me. Consumer Reports just posted their list of the Top 10 Most Reliable and Top 10 Least Reliable vehicles. While GM made up half the the least reliable list, without a single on most reliable, the only FCA product on least reliable was the Alfa Giulia (which is to be expected)

In reply to NickD :

You have to actually sell cars to make reliability figures.

Reminds me of th 4L60s OMG EXpLODE thing.  Well, sure, they have problems, because GM sold a billion trucks with the 4L60 and trucks get abused.  You don't hear about 4R70s even though they fail as often if not more often.

All three truck brands around here appear to be nearly equal in numbers. Jeeps are hot right now and the silly prices they get for something so archaic has to mean big profits for FCA. The death of most Chrysler cars likely won't make a ripple.

I don't know why they haven't unified Chrysler and Dodge under one brand umbrella already. They each have, what, two products each now? The 300/Pacifica and Charger/Durango?
