My friend Meg is having issues with an alloy wheel sealing this winter. She's tried having the rim and tire re-mounted, and it worked for a while, but now its a full blown leak. I've heard of using Fix-a-Flat to seal up leaks like this. I know it will muff up the Schraeder valve, but shes getting new tires in the summer so a new valve and core won't be an issue, long term.

Is there a better quick fix?

In my experience, the fix-a-flat stuff in a can works for a week or two, then doesn't. The slime stuff will work for the rest of the winter or until she gets the tire/wheel replaced.

Did the tire shop use bead sealer?

Black RTV silicone in the caulk gun. Break the tire bead, put a bead of silicone around the tire bead and re-seat it. I've done it a bunch of times, works well.

Fix a Flat is also a quick way to get on your tire guy's E36 M3 list.

Cant just dismount and apply bead sealer. Polish the bead as well.

Seconded. I have done this as well with both RTV and the green goo stuff. RTV tends to work a little better and easier to clean up.

Whoever resealed it was probably too lazy to clean it before gooping sealer on it. Id go back and have it sealed correctly
