Can something like this be saved?
Well it is $1500 and I could probably get it for less, I also found a TR3 in similar shape I could snag for $1000. Only problem is I won't have a garage for 2 months
I think the TR3 has a little more room. If you had to leave this outside for two months, how much worse can it get?
Dan
That's the one that's been advertised on the HAMB board for a while, isn't it? The seller had a link to a photobucket account with more photos, the underside is pretty rough but for the price it's probably worth it.
I am more interested in the frogeye... I never liked the looks of the Tr3.. but the sprite falls into that catagory of cars that are so cute you cannot help but smile even looking at them
Yes, the bugeye has been on the HAMB classifieds for awhile.
I like TR3s more but I have one concern with it. When I looked at it I couldn't get underneath to see the frame so I don't know the condition. Also the drivers door doesn't line up on the back side (looks like the body is folding in the middle so the top edges overlap, like this /\ instead of this II). The passenger side door looks fine.
Also with the TR3 it looks like parts are harder to come by and I would need quite a few repair parts including both rear fenders while the Bugeye seems to have most parts available.
My answer would be YES. But then I might be crazy since I saved this one:

If nothing else, the pictures of my project might encourage you to run as fast as you can AWAY from this little beauty.
Those pictures just may convince me to run far away . I would love to have a Bugeye but I'm going to be renting a house with a garage and don't have any welding equipment (always time to learn right?).
Maybe I should stick with a more affordable later spridget that needs less repairs. If only I hadn't sold my near perfect 67 Midget a couple years ago...that I got for $1000...that had barely any rust and a perfect interior
This is real close to me Evan, but I'm not sure what might be left other than the instruments...

Hard to tell what condition those rear fenders are in but they may be useable.
I have found a couple later Midgets in decent condition that I may check out.
I can look at the TR3 anytime this weekend if you want me to (and if it's not gone already). I almost went last night, but we got those storms about the time I thought to go.
Also, have you seen the Midget for sale in pieces for around $500 on CL?
My buddy went to a lot of trouble to get his Karman Ghia to look like that. He sanded off all of the paint and watered it every day for a month. He also cut out some perfectly good metal and stitch welded in some pieces. When it was just right, he gave it a light sand and clear coated it. Had all of the chrome replated and shined up. Then he gutted the interior and added things like a fiberglassed over paper beverage carrier for cup holders, small fan on dash, etc. He would take it to shows and leave tapes of bum fights on the dash. Drew the biggest crowds at every show.
