Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about getting started in autocross this year but have no experience in participating in an event. Is anyone participating in any Central FL autocross events coming up? If so, would you mind a follower? I'd like to observe what goes on and it would be cool to have someone with me!
Let me know! Thanks!
Regardless of who may or may not be available, just go. Autocross has got to be one of the most welcoming activities you can get into; never met a club that did not treat the new guys with enthusiasm.

That's reassuring. I've never really met anyone in this area who actually does it, so I wasn't sure.

I'm in Lake Mary.

This is absolutely true. And usually every event has a novice program of some sort to help you get through your first race and understand what to do and when to do it.

Haven't met the Central PA Corvette club, have ya?
Seriously, I do agree that almost always autocrosses are very welcoming to novices.
OP, many times the clubs will run an introductory class in the spring time for novices. Very helpful! Considering where GRMS is headquartered, the folk there can likely help you very directly with where to go down there.
Man, we have to meet up for beers or something. I'm getting into autocross soon as well, and we're close enough that we'll likely be attending the same events. CFLSCCA runs out in Deland.

I suggest looking into Martin Sports Car Club. They have a forum that is moderately active. Go there and introduce yourself a few days before the next event (March 9, I think) and then show up. Great group.
Even closer, we have a two day event coming up in Geneva on March 29 and 30. Saturday is a very special Starting Line event (http://sccastartingline.com/) that is kind of expensive at $325 but includes SCCA membership, a GRM subscription, a full day of instruction and much more. Sunday is a regular regional autocross that I'll be attending, and cost only $35. I'll be doing some novice instruction on Sunday; not the same level as Saturday's event, of course, but I try to help out as much as I can. See our website www.cfrsolo2.com for more details.

and some martin members spend more time here
I'm going to try to make it to the Geneva autocross on March 30; as a GRMer, I'd be happy to show you the ropes.
Tom! Tom! PLEASE bring the 818!
Autocross March 30. It will be May before we can even try and we still might need parkas!

Agreed, I'm always down to make some local car friends. I'll PM you.

I've heard of the Martin Sports Car Club, but haven't done any research, and didn't realize there was a forum. I'll check it out, thanks!

That sounds like a blast. I had no idea it even existed...what is the deadline to register? I didn't see it on the site.

That would be an honor! I appreciate all of the positive responses from everyone.
I've made up my mind: I'll be at the autocross in Geneva on March 30. Most likely in the TDI Beetle.
I usually bring 2 or 3 novices with me and show them the ropes, so PM me if you'd like the same treatment. I love introducing people to the sport.

Sure, I am going to try my best to do the Starting Line, but either way I'll plan to go. PM sent!
Great, I'll see you there! The deadline for entry into the Sunday event is the Friday before the event. Not sure about the Starting Line deadline; it probably has it in the registration page.
Edit: Starting Line deadline is March 28th.

Just a follow-up to everyone, I just registered for the SCCA Starting Line!

Looking forward to the report!
Show up early and walk the course until you can do it in your head.
