I'm guessing the ICP is going a little wonky. Any of you Ford experts out these think otherwise? It's an 05 with 96,XXX miles.

I don't need any 6.0 fire and brimstone crap , I know what I have in the engine bay. I like the truck. It has been plenty reliable so far. Lets focus.

It could very well be, but how is the coolant level?

Fine. It's not ingesting it.

Normally, 6.0's don't eat coolant outside of rare occasions. They normally barf the oil out the overflow bottle in an awesome chocolate milk mess.

You have changed both fuel filters recently? Is there oil on the ICP connector? Or does the idle change when you unplug it?

20k miles on these fuel filters. Haven't laid eyes on the ICP yet or messed with it. Just noted a slight surging on Sunday.

I would change the filters first, they are due for replacement.

Still don't understand why they mounted the frame rail filter where they did...

$84 with overnight shipping for OEM Fuel filters from Rock Auto. I'll take that. Dealership wanted a lot more...

Because all the aftermarket pumps do the same thing?

is it an auto? have you looked into the egr cooler yet? I've been working on the 6L since 2008, probably not nearly as long as some of the people on here, but some of the stuff that jumps out at me.... If its an auto... Trans temp sensor, they go bad Trans wiring harness, they go bad too.... Now on to the engine itself, The egr cooler clogs up with soot first, if you catch it early you can clean it out with a wire brush, the truck will run a million times better I promise you. Sometimes, if its leaking coolant from the top passenger side of the engine the cooler is the gremlin, just replace it, dorman makes a good affordable replacement. The EBP sensor, look into it. Its toward the front of the motor on the drivers side, the tube they use clogs up with soot and can be cleaned with carbon cleaner (I use STIHL) let it soak over night and it will be clean as a whistle.

If your oil is dirty for a long period you will either kill your injectors, or HPOP. both are very expensive.

Lastly are your alternator(s) and batteries in good order? if not you can kill your FICM, easy to diagnose with a good scan tool.

05 had the VGT turbos worked out, lucky you.

6L is a monster and gets great MPG when everything is working right, you probably already know that.

Yeah I average 22mpg rolling empty and 16 mpg pulling our loaded 28' horse trailer.

I'll get the fuel filters done first and see if that helps. Cheapest things first! We bought this truck because it had a complete service history and had obviously been babied. I'm hoping to continue that. I get the oil changed every 5k and run fuel additive in every tank.
