Eh, I can see how my tone comes off that way.   It just felt underwhelming when I've seen so many announcements about it, and then for 800+ Hp and a nurburging focus on PSC2R, that its not much (if at all) faster than cars from 7-8 years ago.

Here's the part that gets me.

Watch the 2018 ZL1 video.  I personally like the 2017 video, because it was an automatic and the driver never manually changed gears, but the 2018 was a 7:11 despite a very poor top end because the car seemed to slow down from the 5-6 shift at 168ish on the looooong straight.

Then watch the GTD video.  Or the reverse order, whichever.

The ZL1 video is almost constant tire howl and you can practically feel the slip angles in the front tires as well as the rear as he motors along the course.  He's leaving nothing on the table.

The GTD has no audible tire noise and minimal slip angles front or rear.

Because he's not driving that hard.

Because the course is wet.

?? I think a spec Miata would be lucky to approach the 8 minute lap time let alone breaking through the 7.

Every track day I've ever been to in a SM, I've had a lot of point-bys from Mustang drivers who finally realized I only temporarily disappeared.  But that was the straight, and now we're in a corner.

Are you saying that the GTD is "just another Mustang", such that your spec Miata would still beat it? Umm, okay.

I don't consider GT500's, Boss 302's, Laguna Seca's, and GT350's "just another Mustang".  The problem is that most Mustang drivers at a track day are "just another driver".

Fast drivers in slow/cheap cars turning faster laps than slow drivers in fast/expensive cars is a common joke topic around here. Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive.

For me, the Mustang GTD lives in "if I hit the lottery it's one of my first purchases" territory for sure.

I think the Mustang number is amazing when you consider that they are a long way from home and had to bring everything , car , crew , tools , parts etc.

Great to see them want to spend the $$$

I just hope no one brings a GTD to a cars and coffee event, then stuffs it into a curb leaving.

World's fastest hairdresser?

Joking aside, well done Ford. I like seeing what happens when the domestic manufacturers really step up.
