We've got an 80's Ford Ranger 2.3 engine and four speed nearly transplanted into a project car that we're building and pretty much have the engine all sorted out. Headers, carb, intake and such. Still fussing with the distributor.
Now wondering about the four speed trans and need some help. Nobody seems to offer an aftermarket shifter for this trans and we can't source a clutch pivot arm or hydraulic throw out bearing.
One of the locals said that the four speed was actually a Mazda unit, but really not at all sure.
Anyone familiar with this combination? It's a really clean, low mileage set-up and fits perfectly in the car. Even the exhaust clears the starter and inner fenders/firewall like it was made to. Just gotta find some info on the trans.
Wonderin'
Thanks ! !

The ranger station is good resource for older models. The Toyo Kogyo 4 speed "X" might be your transmission.
Toyo Kogyo is part of a bigger Mazda group if I'm not mistaken.
Hey, thanks ! !
I'll look into those for sure.
Does it have a flat stamped steel pan with a drain plug in the middle? If it does it is a FM145 Mitsu trans. IF not it is a Toyo Kogyo.
A bunch of the Rangers used Mazda transmissions. Some of those had a plastic shifter housing prone to breakage which led to some rather funny workarounds to get them to our shop.
No way to adapt a slave cylinder to the outside of the bellhousing?
I found some good ranger info while researching a 5.0 transplant. check the adapter websites.
