Intakes and exhausts play into this a lot, but also aluminum v iron. There's very different resonances going on there. IMO Aluminum motors have a slightly flatter, more mufled tone. Can't say that I like one more than the other though.

full length headers, an X pipe, and a 2.5" Flowmaster cat back kit sounds pretty good behind a stock 302 short block out of an 88 Grand Marquis with E7TE heads and an E303 cam in my buddy's 89 Mustang.. of course, the 4.10 gears and 5 speed also help, too.
