Massively overheating a tire (chunking) is user error, usually caused by overdriving a car out of frustration towards its understeer tendencies without actually going any faster. Maybe that's not what happened in your case, though. I admit i dont know anything about tires being more or less susceptible to overheating based on age.

It's tons of fun, but pretty tough to control the corner entry understeer. I eventually got the hang of it.
Nice video, I had a '03 Legacy Wagon that I used last season. I used some old Hoosiers and Toyos and it ran really well, especially since I was in GStock.

I was talking about body roll. Take soft, worn out shocks and add sticky tires (versus some that just slip) and the body roll will get worse. That is what I was saying.

I used those BF Goodrich tires for the first autocross this year but we had snow, freezing rain and sleet so obviously there wasn't any overheating.
I've never chunked a tire from over driving but I have by trying to wedge 225/45/15's on an old Dodge Colt. Wasn't quite enough room when turning the wheel more than 1 lock, chunked it on the inside fender.

Bah, your non-dodge body roll is weak! I was able to achieve more body roll with far less traction when i used to autocross my stock dynasty on 215/60/15 street tires!
Also here is a minivan generating REAL body roll on dirt!

If parts fly off a tire without overheating it, that's REAL bad mmk LOL
