A friend and I where talking and we think F1 should borrow 20 formula E cars and put them on slicks. Basically have Monoco be a 1 off spec race with electric cars made specifically to provide fantastic racing. Do some studies to figure out what physical car characteristics put the laptime completely in the hands of the drivers skills. Also could show top shelf electric racing.
Yes clearly this would make it not exactly part of the same F1 callender and be unique compared to the rest of the callender. Yes also clearly it's a stupid idea that will never happen. But it would be very entertaining. Almost like a F1 all star weekend. The circuis would still come to town. You could still award points and all the rich people would still get to drink on their yachts. It would just be more entertaining for the fans then the parade of people trying to send it into the chicane at the end of the tunnel.

I was thinking super karts or something along those lines. Even the smaller GP2 cars had some passing once the elbows were (really far) out.
Hopefully we (probably Hamilton) get lucky with a band of showers that role through at some point in the race and mess up the high speed parade.
If only we could have this grid for any other race, it would make for a really good race.
Monaco is my least favorite race of the year but I'm still optimistic that we will have an interesting race. Rain would help. I wonder if Mercedes would ask Bottas to move over if Lewis comes storming up behind him? Bottas is not likely to be in the fight for the WDC and letting Lewis by would be good strategy for Hamiltons fight with Max. I suspect that Leclerc will hang on to win the thing, he's very talented and is pretty calm under pressure. Regardless, even if they all finish as they start, the Championship will become more interesting.
Logically, I see Lewis finishing roughly where he starts, based on the goofy track.
However...
I really wouldn't be surprised to see him win, because Lewis.
I'm kinda picturing Max in the wall with Charles, and Valteri wanders off to the win.
Looks like Charles keeps his transmission and pole, last I read.

They are passing the tests. That doesn't mean that they will pass a more stringent test...
Build the car to the enforcement, or be left behind, according to Andy Petrie.
Monaco and Talladega fall into the same category for me. Not really races. Big show, but not really representative of the sport.
The tests are not the regulations. If you build your car to the enforcement and not the rulebook, you do not have right to complain if the enforcement changes but the rulebook does not. As Alfa pointed out, we saw this over and over with emissions cheats long before VW got their hides nailed to the wall.

If Lewis comes storming up behind Valtteri, he's demonstrably faster and the team would be right to give orders - just like they would the other way around. But if Lewis was showing no signs of actually being any faster and just ended up behind Valtteri through pit stop roulette, I hope the team would let them be. I suspect they would, I can only think of one time where Bottas was asked to sacrifice for Lewis' championship run instead of a whole team strategy.

I see that happening ONLY if Verstappen is in front of both of them, and Lewis has a chance to do *something* about it. But there's also the flip side- there's a decent lead right now, so letting Bottas win would not be a bad thing.
Holycow things are changing fast- it sounds like Charles had gearbox problems coming onto the track when the pit opened. Uh oh. I was looking forward to a Max v. Charles going into turn 1.
Edit- with 5 min to get to the grid (where they can work on the car) Ferrari is looking at the gearbox in his car. This is tense
It's official, Charles not on pole anymore- he will do a pit lane start. Heartbreaking.
edit- so now it's Valteri V Max going into turn 1, with Bottas having the inside line from behind. This should be interesting.
edit 2- Red Bull just asked to regrid to put max on the inside... nope.
Bigger update- Charles is OUT. From pole to not even starting. Let the second guessing get underway- Ferrari should have taken 6th vs. the risky pole.
IMHO, it was worth the risk- had the driveshaft not had a problem (which is what is being reported) Charles would be on pole and have his best chance to win his home race. And Ferrari isn't really part of the championship in anyway, so winning needs to be priority.
Well, that was a fun race lol
So I guess we just wait for a HAAS to stick it in the wall to trigger everyone's pit stops
At this point (lap 17) it's interesting to see that Verstappen and Bottas can't clear a pit stop to Vettel. They are close, but Seb has found some speed to really mess with the leaders.

Now I think Max is just managing the race- keeping Bottas behind Vettel and Perez if he pits.
Bottas just lost the race.
edit- and making things worse, Hamilton could not jump Gasley, which let Vettel jump them both. What a crappy weekend for Mercedes.
edit 2- and Perez jumps them all.
Yep, so I guess the undercut wasn't the answer.
At least Bottas wasn't in the lead and then had that problem.
Watch for smoke coming out of Hamilton's helmet.
When Merc has a bad weekend, they really step on their own cranks.
Lap 49:
Other than the two HAAS cars swapping last place on the first lap, has there been a single pass on track yet?
In reply to Keith Tanner :
Of course not. It's Monaco.
Perez doing well. Alonzo nowhere. Lewis pissed about being brought in early. Seb in fifth for the first time in living memory. Stroll starting on hards and making it work.
Shame it's such a procession.

Lap 78: no change. Sigh. The good news is that I was able to clean the cat boxes mid-race without missing anything.
I thought Serena would have crushed the flag waving but was clearly off form.

The Litter Robot is the best money I've ever spent. (Which is a far more interesting discussion than that race)

Three automatic litter boxes with reusable trays and crystal litter on a rotation schedule. We're in decent shape there so it's not THAT onerous. But an F1 race should be preferable regardless.
