So close for Lando, hopefully tomorrow is more interesting than last week.

Now because of penalties, Russell starts P8!!! Fingers crossed that Williams has a perfect race and gives him a chance to score some significant points. I have to admit, that I also hope RB has engine/gearbox issues and Lando can stand on the top of the podium.

Likely to be correct unfortunately.
But we can hope! :) Lando's done pretty well this year, fingers crossed for a maiden win. Max doesn't make a lot of mistakes these days, though...

I was expecting it to go on for ten minutes with some crazy solo in the middle, hopefully they do the podium anthems after lol
All three of those incidents are "racing incidents" and shouldn't be penalized. It's on the overtaking driver to do so safely. The lead driver maintains the racing line and if they're side by side then the overtaking driver should brake first. No one changed lines to shove their opponent off.
Max surely does seem to be in a good place. Lando had a better day than expected. Awfully good race in the mid field.
Actually I'm thrilled that Lando is doing as well as he is....is this performance the beginning of brand parity.... or was this just a 'good' day for the lads at McLaren?

I agree that the first one shouldn't have been a penalty, but then they didn't have any choice for the next two because they had to be consistent. The first Perez/Leclerc tussle was the most questionable, I think.
It's too bad the first one cost Lando second place.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
Yes and no. That's still not even halfway through the season. One (more) DNF can make all the difference.

Supposedly one of the problems is that Mercedes has already gotten to work on next year's car. They didn't expect RBR to be as fast as they are, and with the budget cap they decided to shift those funds around.
Disappointed for Russell losing 10th with a couple laps to go. Also I really wonder if it isn't time for Kimi to retire.
In reply to Keith Tanner :
No, but it is Lewis's track, and has been for years. If Max is fastest and wins, I call that the nail in the coffin. I also think, based on Honda reliability and the fact that Max is a full race ahead, Lewis is in trouble if he doesn't win next race.

Agree. The stewards painted themselves into a corner with the first ruling, then had little choice on the next two if they wanted to appear consistent.

It's maddening to me how readily F1 throws these penalties around. Imagine how much more fun the series would be to watch if guys knew they could try higher-risk moves without the sanctioning body making a subjective judgement on whether or not it was a "proper" move.
