Agreed on the Lewis angle. It always was funny to hear everybody talk about how the Mercedes isn't designed to pass or race in the pack whenever Bottas was stuck behind somebody - just to have Lewis blast through the field like they are sitting still.

Note that it took a tire offset to enable that.  They switched him to a 2-stop strategy when they undercut Verstappen because he wasn't having much luck passing people before that.

Hamilton did make passes happen but was helped by the very thing that hurt him in Monaco. He ran his mediums hard to catch the back of the field, passed cars up to Gasly and the tires were done. He didn't even try to pass as it ended up a good time to pit for hards which should go to the end of the race, to undercut those ahead.

In Monaco his pit triggered everyone to cover him and they succeeded. Here the undercut was strong enough for him to pitstop jump Max, Ricciardo, Russell, and Gasly. He then passes Latifi and Tsunoda both have newer tires on track. He then gets Alonso on a pit stop jump.

So he did passes on relatively older but same hardness tire and then after his stop on lap 48 he made passes on newer diferent hardness tires from everyone else.

I had intended it as more of a general point, but I agree with your comment as well. Fresh tires always help.

Williams release development driver Dan Ticktum   While he might have not be the next Hamilton or Mike Schumi, I think his chances of getting into F1 are slim to none.

Yeah I guess they wanted to give him a fourth chance after his two year ban and other bad records. But he should be gone now from F1.

I just watched a video about him today.

Super talented and won the macau gp back to back which is super impressive

I did NOT know he drove under yellow flag and passed 10 cars to intentionally ram a competitor.  That is berkeleying crazy!

After learning about that incident I now hear his radio chat differently.  I think he is actually unstable.

Now, playing a live video game and calling your "team mate" latifi all sorts of bad names should probably get you dumped from the team.

Makes mazespin and his antics look like ayrton senna.

I really don't have anything to add here, but I'll sure as hell post into the canoe'd f1 2017 thread if I don't bump this one.

Lewis wins 70% of the races, Valteri has to justify his ride again, but George gets it at the end of the year, despite him having only three top 17 finishes.  Maclaren moves to second in the manufacturers race.  Seb does doodley squat in the no longer pink car, and Lances fortunes rise.

From page 1.  I missed on most of my wild guesses...

I think I called foul on my predictions a while ago.

Bottas is not even close to beating Max.

Vettel is doing way better than I thought he would.

The Williams is doing better than I thought they would. Given the points in Hungary were due to a lot of lost cars ahead, they still did well on pace in the first Austria race until mechanical troubles stopped them.

F1 is not a dramatic series, Best we have is Mazepin, who gets in the way and posted something dumb on social media. There are series where throwing fists, helmets ect.. is not encouraged but always seems to find it's way on camera. I think it may be more of a American thing with Nascar, Aj Foyt punching Arie, PT and all his antics. Then again there have been some serious fights in FIA karting, they handed someone a 15 year band this year for fighting.

I am quite happy that we don't have poor childish behavior in F1. I think I know that sickening karting fight you mention where a father and son ambushed and attacked another racer in the post race paddock area. I hope they have lifetime bans but I think I read they are rich and the dad owns karting tracks. So they will be back.

I always held Schumacher in not high regard for his behavior on track and the professional foul way of driving and have always  been curious at the lore around Ayrton Senna. Both were fast (I try to give them props for that) and so didn't have to resort to such bad behavior. I was happy to listen to a recent podcast where a legend in the  sport agreed with my thoughts. He also couldn't praise Schumacher or Senna as he felt their behavior to be too unsportsmanlike.

Yeah sucks it won't be on this year again, still not worth the risks.

I don't know. I think an entire team spending weeks crying to the FIA about a racing incident, calling for a one-race ban, re-enacting it with their reserve driver, talking about being financially compensated for it, is all pretty childish.

You're talking about Jos Verstappen right? Oh no, there weren't video cameras everywhere then so it must be the more recent incident sadly.

Bottas was in Colorado last weekend, riding in a 64 mile gravel bike race at altitude that involved serious climbing. Finished 2nd in his age group and 5th overall out of 500 riders. Oh, and it was his first gravel race.

These guys are fit.

I remember reading an interview with him back in 2017 or 18 and it seemed weird. Then saw some post about him last year but didn't delve deeper to understand what Jos was all about, I just didn't care to learn anything about him. I don't recall much about him and his time in F1 actually. Seeing your post makes me sad and little sympathetic for Max. Based on the Wikiopinion I am understanding why see so little of him in the Redbull garage or on F1 coverage.

At the same time, it kind of explains some of Max's agressiveness toward other drivers.  And it's not as if it's changed much- even when he's wrong, or at least partially at fault, there are some seriously loud voices defending his questionable moves.  Started with his dad, keeps going with Horner and Marko.   Did he ever get blamed for taking himself and Ricciardo out of Baku?  It's really no wonder why the other drivers expect him to be a little dirty in his driving.

He's been training a lot with his girlfriend Tiffany Cromwell, an Ausie pro-cyclist that was just at the Olympics for the road race. If you can keep up (even for a bit) with someone like that you are doing pretty good.

Huh...  They were one of the groups trying to get Force India, so there's at least a desire that has been there.

As for the teams- Haas is obvious, other than the russian connection.  Alfa/Sauber- I thought that was a clear cut owner and didn't know it was owned by a finance group.  Williams we know about, but given it's change last season, I can't see them parting already.

Unless Mike will be buying a part of either team.  Alfa Romeo Andretti?  Mario did drive for Alfa late in his F1 carreer.
