I don't think they have enough daylight to actually do any racing, and they've done two laps so it's a "real" race. Max gets a freebie.

Bit of a Monaco move to award points for quali. I don't have an opinion if it's good or bad, but it's something. It would be bad form to have no classification at all. It's a lose-lose for FIA.
Weird day, y'all. I've sat watching it rain in Belgium for nearly 4 hours today.

No race would have been better than just doing the absolute bare minimum to make it qualify as one.

I think all seasons are rain season in the Belgian mountains, except for the seasons that are snow season.
What they should do is extend the first part of the season and put spa as the last race before the summer break. That way they could push it back a day or three if needed to get it in if weather is that much at spa.
In reply to dean1484 :
What they should do is put Spa back in September. It was there for many years without rain- let the weather start cooling for fall, and it will be all set. I'm betting this rain was set up by the very hot summer getting the Atlantic nice and warm.... Could be wrong, but it's worked in the past.
Oh, and glad we didn't wait- we were camping, and when the red flagged it the first time, we decided to pack in at that time- just as we got home, we saw the interviews of them calling it.

Assuming they could get all the marshals, corner workers, etc to work it during the week.

No rain tires . . . yet.
The result of this "race" makes F1 look really dumb

AIUI, it's not really the tires, it's that ovals don't drain very well and supposedly they will race in the rain at the road courses. (I don't follow NASCAR, so this is just what I've been told)
Am I being overly cynical if I speculate that they did exactly enough laps to meet the technical definition of a "race" in order to comply with requirements for various sponsor and/or promoter contracts?
What an embarrassment. I can't believe they are awarding points for this nonsense.
If the F1 circus is so big and unwieldy that it can't handle a one-day delay when they are racing the next weekend, maybe they need to look at improving their logistics. NASCAR does rain delays at least once a year, and they seem to handle it just fine.

Not cynical at all. That is exactly what they did. However, it is due to the regulations that calls it a race and when they award points. 2 official laps is the definition of a minimum race.

Been prob 10 years but nascar did run a road course in the rain, believe it was at a Canadian track. Commentators wouldn't stop talking bout first time a stock car had wipers on it in 50 years or some nonsense like that.
It amazes me the Moto GP guys will run in the rain, talk bout balls of steel

Xfinity cars have run wet at least half a dozen times. Cup cars have a couple times.

The Cup guys ran in the rain in May at COTA. It was kind of a mess, but they did it.
