Really enjoyed that quali! I'm pleasantly surprised by the top 3, and would love to see any of them on the top step tomorrow.

Yep, that quali was enjoyable. As a Brit, Norris and Russell had me shouting at the TV in celebration. What is going on with Hamilton... Tomorrow should be interesting indeed..
That was a wild ending. I bet they were all at half pucker in those wet spots. It is always great to watch them man handle those around in off conditions. I had higher hopes for the honey badger but we'll see what happens in the race.

This looked like a one-off mistake to me. The track gets dried off by the cars driving on it but the pit lane stays wet much longer, it's an easy mistake to make. Hamilton is human, he makes occasional mistakes and this is one of them. :) That mistake cost him the second lap he needed to have the tires warmed up, so no improvement on time.
Supposedly it's going to be dry for the race, will be interesting to see if the Mercedes can pass here.

Er, the Mercedes was good for 4th on inters vs everyone else on softs even in the questionable conditions. I think the real question is how fast can the Mercedes get through, not if. Without the switchover mistake they were in a class of their own without max to mix it up.

I don't know that I would draw any conclusions from the inter-vs-soft times, the track conditions were basically right at the crossover point between the two and many of the drivers didn't get enough time to warm them up properly. But yes, it's a strong track for Mercedes.
I saw a couple interesting news articles this afternoon -- one suggesting that the P4 qualy position might push Mercedes into changing Hamilton's engine after all (not sure if I believe that one). The other one they interviewed Russell and apparently the switch to drys was actually a mistake. His radio message was intended to say "we'll want the slicks sometime during the session", but the team misinterpreted it as "bring me in for them right now".

Like the China GP his rookie year.
That was a great race. Hate it for Lando but congrats to Lewis on 100 and Max ran a smart race too. I'm certain I've never said that last one before!
Really unfortunate for Norris. Great race for Carlos. Unexpected that the championship would be so close. 100 for Lewis. George gaining even more point. Lando drove so well yesterday and today and he deserved to fight it out for the win on pace. I hope one falls his way soon.
Sochi is Bottas's best track, he had a new engine and had one job: to keep Max behind him and he couldn't manage that at all-no wonder he got ditched for next year, good riddance. Exciting race, rain at the end always adds drama, I feel bad for Norris not even getting on the podium
Man, the massive mix up in the field- max looked like he could have gotten passed at the end to then finish 2nd was nuts. Tough for McLaren, not sure who made the bad call for the tires, but didn't exactly work out.
100 for Lewis is pretty amazing! Seeing his pace after Ricciardo pitted showed he was being patient and letting the race come to him- he had a lot left in those tires.
On lap two, had you shown me the finishing order, I'd have called you a liar.
Also, Lewis won that thing by a berkeleying eternity. 53 seconds or so?
Lando. Dude. Listen to the boss.

I'll +1 on that. They were telling him to box and he wasn't hearing it. I know it's harder when your in first but he and Lewis had the field covered even with another stop. If he is listened to the radio call I think it would have been Lando 1 Lewis 2 but who knows???
In reply to New York Nick :
It would have come down to the pit crew. They both should have come in the lap before Lewis did, as shown by Max.
Young guy going for the win, instead of an old guy knowing he needs to take what the race will give him that day.
