Had the Mercedes kept in front through the first lap it would've been interesting but that didn't happen.
Oh well, on to the next one.

I don't think that would have made any difference to the top 2, Verstappen was just too fast.
In reply to codrus (Forum Supporter) :
Yep, but the race wouldn't have been over in the first corner and it would have been two on two for the strategy calls. Podium would likely be identical though like you say.
Did anyone just see that qualifying? As I saw Max's start for his last lap, it sure looked like his DRS wing was flapping.
And after what happened in Mexico, I'm not going to be excited of an unexpected result until it happens.
Hamilton got pole for the Sprint, and *should* win it, so that he start's 6th on Sunday due to the engine change. Seeing his gap to the field, he should be able to carve back onto the podium.
I didn't notice that but it was nice to see a qualifying where they weren't all stacked up, just went out and ran laps.
In reply to New York Nick :
Maybe it was an illusion- but at 3:42 , he starts his lap, and very briefly, it seems that the DRS is flapping before it closes.
Edit- start here- https://youtu.be/XEeIbERpgsk?t=221 and then use the , and . keys to move forward frame by frame, and you can clearly see more and less "HONDA" as he's approaching turn one.

At first I thought it was because the car was hitting bumps, but when I replayed it frame by frame it does look like it flapped a bit.

It could be really exciting if both Lewis and Max have to start from the back for the sprint. I don't think Max deserves that for his little wing touching incident and I doubt anything will come of that. We should find out shortly what will happen though, seems like there's a good chance Lewis will start from the Pits and Max on "pole" for the sprint.
New York Nick said:F1.com just put out a story that Hamilton is under Investigation for a DRS infringement
Sounds like it's getting more soap opera like- https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.breaking-hamilton-at-risk-of-penalty-over-drs-technical-infringement-in.2pDHh4Fu8pktfpdSrj6LDQ.h
There's a video of Verstappen touching Lewis' rear wing, which is a big violation of parc ferme. So will Hamilton avoid penalty or will Verstappen also get one?
And no news of Verstappen's DRS flapping.
Max makes a mandatory donation to the FIA and Lewis to the back. At least it should be fun watching him make his way up through the field.
Interesting sprint race, other than Hamilton carving through the field, not much happened. Verstappen got by Sainz- but what else happened after the start? Oh- Norris got by someone, too. Hamilton- 20th to 5th was pretty strong. If not for the fact that Verstappen will check out, he could catch all the way up? Maybe? No, I don't think so. Podium is as best as he can expect unless the weather is a mess.
I watched the main feed on the big screen and Lewis's onboard camera on the laptop and it was interesting watching him change his line, plan the attack and make the passes. I could see how he would back off a little in one section so he could build up momentum to pass on the main straight

That must have been really fun to watch! They did talk about that during the race- especially how Hamilton was able to get out of a DRS train by just passing another car with DRS. I hope other drivers see what he did so that they can do the same thing.
I was going to estimate Lewis for fifth, but that felt terribly optimistic. A master class in passing there.
I really was surprised Max couldn't get by Valteri. I guess that big time Merc speed is real.
The softs had an undeniable advantage at the start, but that would mean a 45 lap or so run on hards. I'd have to presume a one stop strategy tomorrow, medium/hard, although I be somebody will go soft/hard.
Or, based on that big black cloud in the background, inter/soft...
One thing that I heard from the post race show was that the Red Bulls both suffered from tire over heating. And tomorrow is supposed to be hotter

Max had some pretty good blisters on the edge of his front, right I think.
I was surprised at how Lewis sliced through the field. After the trouble he has had passing Tsunonda and Norris at previous races. It was interesting that he was able to do pass like that but no one else seemed to be able to. I would say it was just because he was passing slow cars but he reeled in Norris and Checo at the end. I don't see him Beating Max without some safety car help but it may be an interesting race.

Interlagos is a much better track from a passing standpoint.
As for the rest of the field, I expect it's the usual conservatism in sprint races. Gaining a couple of places on the grid generally isn't worth the risk of making big passes. Hamilton needed everything he can get, because if Verstappen wins or takes 2nd and he gets no points, then it's pretty much over for the championship.
