I mean, that's all it is really - which is why it's always funny. Shooting the breeze.

It's pretty much why I tune in regularly.

I very rarely get to see the races live (Just life getting in the way mostly) so I use the posts here to stay 'caught up' as best as I can tell.

Rarely post because I have very little to add having not seen anything live and only reading the articles that get linked here.

As sports discussions go this is incredibly tame.

One of my co-workers and I were chatting about the race.  He's a Verstappen fan, I'm a Hamilton fan.  Both of us were arguing who's the better driver, who was more at fault, etc.  Much like the discussion on this very board, but maybe not quite so..... passionate, but still pretty heated.

And then it hit me.  I would make a TON of fun of anyone else arguing about two multi-millionaire celebrities.  I'd ask them why they're wasting the mental cycles and, more importantly, getting upset with each other over something they have no input and no control over.   If you heard two people yelling at each other if Eminem or Snoop Dog was a better rapper or what current drama is going on in the Kardashian family, would you join in the fight or just laugh at people getting so worked up about it?  I assume the latter.

I only mention it because while there is a lot of passion around here, it just makes me sad to see the hate thrown around about a couple of high paid celebrities.......

Eminem or Snoop? I don't even know how to argue that, they are both legends! Old school Snoop with the smooth lyrics and machine gun style from Eminem (go watch Rap God if you want to see mad spitting).
Wait a minute I should be listening to classical music with my wine and cheese... sorry we can get back to fighting about rich dudes.

Maybe we could have an F1 Nerd cage match............we come up with the SIM for F1 cars at Martinsville and then just let everyone have at it...............that should release some pent up aggression.

I do know one this for sure; regardless of who wins on Sunday I will be in full morning by dinner time......................cuz F1 is over for the year.

Fortunately I live in a warmer climate and I can console myself with the fact that there is a track day in 3 1/2 weeks.

You need to keep that rap knowledge undercover or the whole wine and cheese thing just won't work.

I can't wait for the race!!!

In reply to New York Nick:  I'm an old guy, so it's the best example I could come up with.  I'm sure there are more modern rappers that it could apply to. (are the Kardashians still a thing?  I have no idea)

Tom1200: Love the idea of a virtual F1 cage match to get out the aggression.  Does iRacing work on an iPad?  :D

But, honestly, just trying to point out that this place is full of awesome people and I hate to see the fighting going on.  Life's too short to get angry about something that none of us have any control of or influence in.  Getting worked up and excited about it?  Absolutely.  I, for one, will actually drag my butt out of bed Sunday morning to watch the race live and, if this weekend's race is anything like last, I'll be yelling at the TV.

I would just hate to see anyone take this seriously enough to throw insults at other members, give up and stop contributing or end up getting banned over all of it.

I usually just want a tight or interesting race - I don't have much allegiance to any one driver or manufacturer. It swings back and forth depending on my mood and who's being annoying in any one race. The only driver I'll really fan-boi over is Danny-ric and only because the dude has the best attitude - not even just by f1 standards:

I'm old too so all the new rappers can get off my lawn. The more I think about this the rivalry is more like Tupac and Biggie. I am sure this will end up better than that steaming pile though.

I am so excited for Sunday but sad to know hats the end for a few months.

So, then...As to who the best driver in the world is, with my 4 year old Grandson as 1 and Kyle Larson as 100, Lewis and Max would both come in around 98.

/ducks and runs for cover...

It would be fun to throw Lewis and Max into a pair of Midgets and let them loose at the Chili bowl and see what happens lol.

Just reading that sentence again, I wonder how a Dutch or English F1 fan would interpret that!

I don't think you need to duck and cover. I think they are all great, different artist but all great. Larson can drive anything, it's wild to see him run a sprint car then a winged sprint then a late model and then a cup car and rock everyone of them. I don't know how Lewis or Max would fair switching cars like that. They seem very honed in to one car. As good as Larson is I bet he would get smoked by either of them in an F1 car (like as a team car).
It's a great question though.

I am actually fascinated that the season is ending so close to the end of the year. I think the energy I have for F1 is boiling over now, as in I am kind of over it all but that might also be because I am in training this week. Bandwidth being used to add new data files and folders in my brain.

And Fugees

I was just throwing out an aside that has intrigued me as a trend in my little circle not implying at all that it is greater than that.

I understand your position a lot after your last post. This is a forum thread about millionaires driving cars in circles. And I am happy we can share it with wine and cheese or a bowl of congee or some frosted flakes or even poutine!

It very much seems that this really long schedule isn't sustainable for the teams and drivers.  F1 isn't like NASCAR where you are just driving across the states- you are traveling all over the world.  And it makes it harder to be with your family.

That being said, I'm really looking forward to the new cars.  Every time there's a car change, there's a big mix up in the standings.  And can the teams that backed off on this version get back some performance- Haas, Williams, Sauber, etc.  Haas really looked like they had a very effective F1 model to work from, until Rich Energy came along.

I'm really excited for the season finale.  It has been many years since we had legit title fights go so late in the season to be decided.  The mid-pack battle has been fantastic this year as well with a lot of talented drivers and teams.  No complaints at all from me this season.

I do hope we keep up the mix of old and new tracks in the cycle, though I doubt it will continue.  It has been fun to see the cars on different tracks where folks don't have reams of historical info to pull from.

Yep, and Abu Dhabi should be interesting since they've made some changes to the layout.

Every time Mercedes does one of their promo "Toto vs Valtteri vs Lewis lap battles!" in GT cars, I always laugh. Hamilton tries to hang it out a bit to showboat for the camera, but he's wired to maximize drive off the corner so he just gets twitches. Bottas goes full Finn and parks it sideways in every corner.

I think Bottas might have the edge in the midgets.
