I think Ferrari has the best chance of snagging Newey. They can offer him the chance to work with Hamilton, a retirement villa in Italy and free reign to design the next great roadgoing Ferrari, or the Ferrari WEC car

Don't you think Newey already makes over £1,000,000.  I think it would be great to see a huge shakeup in drivers and engineers in F1. It would be just like when it rains during a race and everything gets mixed up. 

Before the season started Williams had a car on display in Manhattan in the Puma store for about three days.  Show cars usually linger a bit longer, now I'm wondering if it wasn't a showcar 😂.

There is a mystique to racing with Ferrari, and I can see how that might appeal.  OTOH he is CTO at RBR -- is Ferrari willing to hand over that level of position to someone who isn't Italian?  They did it once before with Ross Brawn and Jean Todt (thus leading to the Schumacher era), but there seems to have been much reluctance to do it otherwise.

THE FOURTH RACE OF THE FORMULA 1 SEASON SEES THE RETURN TO ASIA

​After the traditional Easter break, Formula 1 resumes with the Japanese Grand Prix, which will be held in April for the first time: Suzuka has always hosted the race in October and November, although last year the GP was moved up to September 24th. Owned by Honda, the facility also features an amusement park and a traffic education center, in addition to the Honda Racing School for karting, single-seater, and motorcycle driving.

 According to Brembo technicians, the Suzuka International Racing Course, with a length of 5.807 meters, falls into the category of circuits that are minimally demanding on brakes. On a scale from 1 to 5, it earned a difficulty index of 1 despite featuring 10 braking points per lap. However, in half of these, the deceleration is less than 60 km/h, and the braking lasts less than a second. There are only 2 braking points in the High category.

The toughest corner 

The toughest corner of the Suzuka International Racing Course for the braking system is turn 16, where there's a speed loss of just under 200 km/h, from 289 km/h to 92 km/h. To achieve this, drivers brake for 2.19 seconds, experiencing a deceleration of 4.5 g with a pedal load of 141 kg. During the braking, which releases a power of 2,250 kW, the car advances for 103 meters.

The first with McLaren

In 1989, McLaren used Brembo braking systems for the first time, at the insistence of Ayrton Senna, who had appreciated them during his time with Lotus. During the Japanese GP, the two MP4/5 cars collided at the chicane entrance: Alain Prost was forced to retire while the Brazilian continued but was later disqualified. The Frenchman thus won the World Championship, but the controversies between the two diluted Brembo's joy, as it became the F1 World Champion for the first time with a team other than Ferrari.

Love Suzuka.  See it is looking like a wet race.  Assuming RBR can put the brakes together correctly, Max by 1 lap.

I just hope they actually let them race in the wet.

It would be interesting to see the pecking order in wet conditions. The better drivers tend to make their presence felt in the rain.

Sergeant bins the car in FP1. Red flag for the session. He has the car Albon wrecked in Melbourne. He's ok and the car doesn't look too bad. Hopefully they can fix it because no spare tub until Miami.

Interesting day at Aston- technically.  They are at the home of their new engine supplier come 26, and their upgrade on Stroll's car isn't nearly as quick as the old set up on Alonso's.   Hm.

Also interesting to see the teams run long on the soft tires.  Not tracking their times, but quite a few teams are getting some good wear info for the softs in P1.  (and it sounds like there is some rain forcasted- related to that)

Even he said it was a silly mistake.  Broke the suspension at both ends and cracked the gearbox.  Luckily the tub is intact, and since FP2 was all but rained out he didn't miss any meaningful track time.  Somebody got deep pockets, wonder how big a hit are all the wrecks they've had this season on the budget cap.  https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/sargeant-suzuka-f1-crash-silly-error-fp1/10595131/

Perhaps they could get Gorilla Glue on board as a sponsor to keep sticking this car back together again. It would clearly be difficult for Cadillac and the Andrettis to bring this level of prestige to F1. 

Weather is clear at the moment but if there's rain I think Alonso has a good chance to finish on the podium!

There can be no greater engineering success story this year than Ferrari's tire wear improvement.  Charles did a one stop, really, and gained 4 spots.  Such a huge shift from last year.

Plus, strategy that wasn't blindly pulled out of a sack of options...

As a Lewis fan, I'm thrilled that Ferrari under Freds leadership is making fewer strategy mistakes and building a fast car. Should be a good team to race for next season

I'm wondering if it would be a better team with Carlos? I hope Lewis finds his Mojo with the new team. He hasn't been up to his standards with the cars of this era. 

Watching the reply tonight- I don't see Ricciardo finishing this season. He turned right into Albon and took both of them out.  Maybe you could say that Albon was a little aggressive with the attempted pass- but he was clearly faster than the RB, and was almost even with him way before the corner.  Daniel tried to force a racing line when he didn't have space to move over.

Positive changes for Ferrari have helped Haas as well.  

Glad to see Yuki get points at home.

Sainz has beaten Leclerc in every race he's competed in this season. Did Ferrari fire the wrong driver? Is Lewis really an upgrade at age 40 and beyond? Seems like Sainz is driving great at the moment.

I wonder that too. I recall Sainz started last season similarly strong and ahead of Leclerc, who ultimately beat him by a mere 6 points. So I'd call them darn near equal, but Sainz sure looks strong right now. Ferrari is in a great position with possibly the strongest driver pairing. Leclerc seems a lot more popular with the Tifosi fanbase and maybe his contract was harder to break compared to Sainz. 

Charles is a bit younger and has been tapped as one of the "next great things" since he came along. We all know that doesn't always work out, but he's rated very highly by most insiders.
