After watching the amazing sprint on sat and the motogp main event on sunday I wonder how long before Liberty medias ownership screws that up?.

GP bikes make as much sense on a street circuit as F1 cars do but....

Miami GP was a decent track for Carlos and Fernando last year, perhaps they can be the best of the not RB.

Some breaking/braking news from Brembo:

THE FORMULA 1 SEASON REACHES ITS SIXTH EVENT AS IT RETURNS TO MIAMI

This marks the first of three annual Formula 1 stops in the USA. The circuit is located at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, home to the Miami Dolphins football club. The chosen layout triumphed over 35 other designs considered by planners. It features 19 turns and 3 straights, with significant changes in elevation, especially between turns 13 and 16.

The GP data

According to Brembo technicians, the Miami International Autodrome, 5.412 kilometers in length, falls into the category of moderately demanding circuits for brakes. On a scale of 1 to 5, it rates a difficulty index of 3 due to 7 braking zones lasting approximately 14.2 seconds per lap. The overall braking power index for the entire race is the lowest among the first 10 Grand Prix events, and brake pedal loads are moderate, except for 3 turns.

The toughest turn

The most challenging turn at the Miami International Autodrome in terms of braking is turn 17. Here, the cars decelerate from 320 km/h to 73 km/h in just 2.95 seconds, covering 126 meters. Noteworthy is the strain on drivers after the preceding straight: they experience a maximum deceleration of 4.7 g and a brake pedal load of 148 kg. The braking power required is 2,505 kW.

A curious past

To date, there have been 76 F1 Grand Prix races held in the USA, including 11 editions of the Indianapolis 500 from 1950 to 1960. One of the most curious races in history occurred at Indianapolis in 2005: only 6 cars started because the others used tires from a manufacturer that advised teams not to race due to safety concerns. The 6 cars got to the end of the race, with the third and fourth finishing one lap down and the fifth and sixth finishing two laps down. All 6 cars used Brembo braking components.

So since he is leaving in the first quarter of 2025, I am guessing he won't be able to put his touch on Ferrari or Aston Martin until 2026. Which is major in developing the new rules.

I vaguely remember an interview in which Newey said he was approached by Red Bull and Ferrari, and ultimately chose Red Bull because they offered to let him build a road car and Ferrari did not.

I wonder if that would be a factor in a deal with them, or if he's satisfied with the Red Bull track car coming out later this year...and the Valkyrie.

The news I'm seeing says Newey is out of the Red Bull F1 team effective immediately, and will stay employed by Red Bull for work on the RB17 hypercar until Spring 2025. So 2024 is effectively his "gardening leave" and he is free to join another F1 team this time next year. Which means he will be designing for the major regulations change in 2026 for a team other than Red Bull...

Apparently, despite the contract being until the end of 2025 with a 12 month quiet period after, somehow they've parted ways such that Newey can start with another F1 team in 2025.  What kind of hammer could he have possibly been swinging to get Red Bull to agree to that?  Alternately, who authorized whatever contract language was inserted that allowed Newey to drive that particular dump truck through it.

Strange things are afoot at the Red Bull headquarters.

In reply to wae :

He wasn't exactly a nobody when he joined the fledgling Red Bull F1 team from the ground floor 20 years ago; he was already a successful WCC-winning designer. And he's had plenty of opportunities to negotiate new contracts over the years, after designing more championship-winning cars for Red Bull. This was apparently the best possible exit deal Red Bull could get him to agree to. No one knows what that contract actually says except their lawyers.

Technically, Newey was part of the RBR team before Red Bull bought them- he had a brief stint with Jaguar. It was so brief, though, it's not really counted in his time with McLaren. (It is, but just a few lines).

While everyone wants to see him in red(me too if it gets Lewis his 9th ;) ) I'd like him to go back to Williams and complete the circle.

Honestly I rather see Newey at Aston Martin, Alonso is by far a more exciting driver to watch, it would be a great closing to his career to win one more championship before retiring.

Alonso is certainly one of my favorites too(driver wise at least)and while F1 is full of big money I'd rather not see Stroll buy his way much further then where they are.

They can struggle a bit longer like the rest of them.

And I'm Canadian whatever thats worth.

One report says that Newey won't go to AM, because it has been reported several times that Stroll is selling shares and by signing Newey he can ask a even more ridiculous price for his shares.

Ferrari rumor seems to be pretty solid, I don't like the idea because I think Hamilton is going to destroy Leclerc's career regardless. Whether you respect Horner or not, Newey only shows up twice a week, and has nothing to do with pit stops and everything else that is not aerodynamics. Vasser is a improvement of the past but he is not Todt.
