My wife barely follows and seldom comments but she is adamant that Max is a sore loser who's only gracious when things go his way............not uncommon in sports but regardless it's one of the least likable human traits.

Me, personally I find the tantrums a complete waste of mental energy.

Again I think it was a strategy rather than emotional outburst. Isn't it common place for a basketball team to foul their competition in the last minutes to save the game time.

I have a problem with it because the risk of injury is a higher in F1.

This week’s Brembo update:

The twenty-first race of the season for Formula 1 is the São Paulo GP, the successor of the Brazilian GP, which has seen 47 editions. After two editions were skipped due to Covid-19, the GP was renamed after the most populous city in Brazil, which is also the location of the track, with the aim of promoting it globally. According to the city’s mayor, the GP brings additional revenue of over 240 million euros per year to São Paulo.

The GP Data

According to Brembo technicians, the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, which is 4.309 meters long, falls into the category of moderately demanding circuits for brakes. On a scale from 1 to 5, it has earned a difficulty rating of 3 because the straights are quite short and there are only 5 braking points per lap, lasting just over 10.5 seconds. Two of these braking points require the use of brakes for less than 2 seconds, and two others do not reach 3.8 g of deceleration.

Discs in 2 Variants

This year, Formula 1 teams are using two types of Brembo carbon discs, the “wide spline” and the “single sided spline.” In the “wide spline” specification, the thickness of the spline - the part in contact with the bell - is equal to the thickness of the disc, while in the “single sided spline” specification, the thickness of the spline is less than the thickness of the disc. This second solution favors a different ventilation strategy for the disc and better packaging of the wheel corner but at the expense of mechanical stress resistance on the carbon, limiting its possible perforation for ventilation. The choice of one solution or the other depends on the peculiarities of the individual cars and the characteristics of the tracks.

The Toughest Turn

The toughest corner of the Autódromo José Carlos Pace for the braking system is the first one: the cars approach it at 337 km/h and slow down to 124 km/h in 2.41 seconds, covering 130 meters. The effort required from the drivers is 4.6 g, and the load they apply on the brake pedal is 139 kg. The braking power is 2,486 kW.

McLaren dominating Q1 in sprint quali.  Lando does a statement lap almost 8 tenths quicker than second place Oscar.  Rain threatening for SQ3..

Another McLaren 1-2 in SQ2, again Lando up by .176 this time.

Another McLaren 1-2 in SQ3, this time Oscar pips Lando by .029.  McLaren is the class of the field so far.

Gotta give some cred to Ollie Bearman- P10 for his sub race in the Sprint tomorrow.  Pretty sweet for Haas' next year driver!!!

Not related to the race, but I saw the video linked below which contains a brief explanation for how F1 is going to be carbon neutral for it's fuel in the near future:  taking water, separating hydrogen from oxygen, then recombining it with carbon dioxide.  The relevant part begins at the 10:03 mark, if interested.  The rest of it is for someone who isn't familiar with the sport.

After such dominance from Ferrari, they were not that quick in this sprint race.  Kind of disappointing for them.

I think the McLaren boys would have stayed ahead of Max and switched on the last lap but there's a chance he'd send a dive bomb and made things spicy.

You mean ruined by a stopped car on the track.  The VSC was a result of that, not just that they threw it out there.  They had no real alternative, even though Hulk tried to drive it off.  Better than an SC.

That was a very interesting race. The busted Haas kind of stunk at the end but Brazil usually seems to have a good race.

I don't know how any self-respecting driver would want someone to give up a spot for him. I know it's done a lot but if you can't race past someone you don't deserve the spot.

I'm confused why VSC wasn't called sooner. I don't think it would have had any effect on the race, but they waited so long for what was obviously going to be a VSC.

Also, I've started watching the F1TV presenters over the sky broadcast. Sky tends to miss a lot of people on screen action. Like when the haas was smoking out the back, sky didn't say anything, but F1TV immediately saw it. It's happened a few other times with passes on screen or incidents.

Max Verstappen has received a 5-second penalty for VSC infringement, which drops to P3.

P4.  It was interesting that Max was complaining of the McLarens slowing down or gapping too much when it turned out that he was the one who broke the VSC rules.

And qualifying is delayed.  Bummer.

You must be new here....  (I know you are not, but team orders are to try to get Lando closer to Max to win the drivers championship.  Just part of the game)

It *seemed* that Hulk was trying to drive the car into a spot on his own, so while he's still moving and the car doesn't 100% need rescued, they don't need to have a VSC (or an SC).  Once it's stopped and clear that someone has to get on the track to rescue it, then the VSC and SC procedures are triggered.

But I sure understand that it looked really long, as it gave McLaren a long time to switch spots before the VSC.

Hinch and Alex were rattling on about McLaren switching positions, and Hoky Cow, they missed the opportunity and golly gee...

With the tight grouping up front, and Lando more likely than Oscar (and more motivated) to survive an attack from Max, I was all for a last lap switch.  The only thing that was going to screw it up woul be a safety car...Oops.  The timing on that was odd, but it didn't really end up changing anything, other than Max getting his peepee slapped.

I was a bit surprised that Max was able to run the tires off Charles Big Red Car.  I pictured the two Macs running off over the horizon.

Entertaining, anyway.
