SCCA Formula Continental is an awesome place to race.  These cars are fast, GT-1 fast at many tracks, safe and affordable!

I've been racing this car around the Great Lakes area for the last 4 years.  I paid 13K for this car with 3 sets of wheel and 24 gear sets.  I race 5 times a year and use two sets of tires a season. I race with the Great Lakes Championship Series,  https://greatlakeschampionship.com  a great bunch of guys who all have to go to work on Monday morning.  The racing is close and exhilarating, there is no adrenalin rush like late braking into a corner with open wheel cars all around you!  I have 3 races up on YouTube.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o4Xf4VwV5c&t=453s

The Pinto engine is very reliable and easy to work on.  The cars themselves are very tough and can be driven at the limit for race distance without concern that the brakes might fade or the tires overheat.  All work on these cars is from the top down, no need for a lift.  These cars weight 1000 pounds so they can be towed with anything.

Parts for these cars are standard racing parts and used chassis parts are available at reasonable prices.

Changing gears isn't hard at all, no pressing of gears onto a shaft,  there are 35 chunks of steel.  Chassis set up is also very easy compared to a sedan.  You do need access to a flat surface and some scales.

Any questions?

Two sets of tires a season you say? 5 races in a season and how many miles if you had to take a guess?

EDIT: Yes I can see the photos in the 2nd post only though.

Continentals are legal for autocross I just can't remember which class; I think it's B-mod.

If you have basic mechanical skills you can run one of these cars. They are indeed very cool and some of the older chassis can be had very cheaply.....or relatively cheaply.

How long these tires last is not about miles but heat cycles.  I like to use them for 12 heat cycles, 4 or 5 cycles per event.  The tires take longer to get sticky the older they get.  Some guys use them until they cord out, its a personal choice.  The photo is from Grattan.  A great place to learn about this class is on the Apexspeed forum, https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?4-Formula-Continental
