Not entirely sold on the new front, if anything it's those stupid side vents with the strakes. They look kinda cheesy. I'll reserve final judgement until I see one in person though. Considering Toyota's recent styling trend, it coulda been a helluva lot worse.

As for the power bump, I'm sure it won't be really noticeable. But it's a step in the right direction. Hint, hint, Toyota, the solution starts with "T" and ends with "urbocharger"

I test drove one, I don't think it needed more power. I think it needed less grip.

The one and only thing I did to my rx8 to prepare for autox was some good tires (RS3 v2's) and while autox times were greatly improved, day to day driving became mundane almost. I'm tempted to take the extra wheels I have with the wife's car's skinny all season tires and stick them on there for kicks.

Same here. I'm pretty hard on my BRZ at times, and it is not without it's faults, but for steering feel and driving fun, there aren't many cars better. In many ways it reminds me of driving my old 944.

please tell me this is not a new production car. Just the thought of seeing that hideousness on the road makes me not want to drive..

As to the FR-86....meh. I've been kinda wanting one for a while, but for some reason have never really fallen in love with the looks and this isn't an improvement. It's like a baby version of that 370z grille with the lower teeth....I don't get it.

No one comments on the wheels? I think they are a huge improvement from the initial stock set. Look a lot less "sport Corolla."

Not that i don't think that's a valid opinion, but didn't it come with the exact same OE tires as the 17" Prius tires? It's just ironic.

I bet it will look way better in person than in these heavily manipulated press shots.

Sort of, it's the Mirai Fuel Cell Vehicle. SO it's "production" but there's only like 300 of them, and all in LA.

I'll agree with you there. But I'm guessing most people just get aftermarket wheels, at least most of the Toyobarus I see around here.

Probably correct - besides subjective aesthetic preferences, the stock wheels are too heavy for 17 'sporty' wheels. I actually like the look of the original and these, but the originals were 21 freaking lbs for a 17x7 wheel. You can get aftermarket wheels in 17x7.5 or 17x8 sizes that weigh 17-18 lbs for not a lot of money, and not too much more for some in the 15-16lb range. I'd love to get the JDM BBS RF Forged 17x7.5 wheels that weigh in @ ~14lbs... way too much $$ though.

Would have been nice if we were able to get the stripped down RC trim here... that's the version I would have ordered.

You are correct, sir, and my opinion stands. It's not a numbers car, so in my opinion if the goal is fun, then make it more slip-slidey. Just my opinion.

I certainly feel that cars are much more fun when their limits are approachable in a predictable controlled manor. Tires with predictable grip, but big slip angles are better for having a fun spirited drive, vs. super sticky tires that are better for posting quick laps, 100% of the time on the street.

Go for it, most of my memorable (read: accidentally sideways in a fun way) driving experiences involve not enough tire, 145s on a Yugo, a 5 speed XJ Jeep on crappy all season in the rain, etc.

I'm just hoping that now that they are called Toyotas, maybe there will be a few more of them around. These have been on my radar since before the originals came out, and I've still only seen a handful of them in either form, even after repeated visits to both Scion and Subaru dealers. These things should have been Toyotas from the beginning.

This "Prius tire" thing is a bit overblown. Clearly it was in the press packet when they released the FR-S in 2012, b/c it's one of like three facts that everybody knows about the 86 twins. In fact the tires, Michelin Primacy HPs, are the tire off of the top-line euro-spec Prius. They are "Grand Touring" class summer tires. Also, the car does .94 Gs on the skidpad even with the Prius rubber, so it's not exactly like Chris Harris running around on temporary spares.

Anyway, as a current FR-S owner I'm not super impressed, but not disappointed either. The new bumper cover is not the best, I would have like to see a FI version introduced, but this is a mid-cycle refresh on a low volume car so I didn't expect any miracles.

I am glad to see it's a Toyota now though. People still think Scion is a Chinese company. That was a failed experiment. Note to Toyota: do not listen to your idiot American marketing people, just build good cars.
