I have a feeling I've seen this post in the past but can't find it. Anyone know of free design software?

FreeCAD. Don't know if there is a CAM interface or not.

You can download a FREE legit fully functioning AutoDesk AutoCAD. Link might be dead or changed, but I've been sending my students to http://students.autodesk.com

AutoCAD is pretty much industry standard.

Also download and experiment with Inventor, it's super cool.

You can also download a freeware version of Draftsight which is exactly like AutoCAD.

FreeCAD is pretty good.

Do the free student version of inventor, autocad SUCKS. Inventor is easy to learn and much faster.

Draftsight is good to learn on for the complete noob, from there you can move up to FreeCAD.

Couldn't agree more, Autocad is a dinosaur anyways these days.

I use Draftsight as well - I drew most of DIYAutoTune's 2D designs (trigger wheels and case endplates) with it, as well as blueprints for the wiring harnesses. It's almost exactly like AutoCad, although I wish there was a way to put the command window in the main window like in AutoCad and make it always open when the program opens.
