I am keeping tabs on this discussion because even though my criteria are slightly different, I do find myself in a remarkably similar situation.
My e30 coupe just isn't really doing the family car thing quite well enough for my taste... Please, keep up the informed opinions!

How about a Gen 1 SHO? I had one...it definitely had some down sides (shifter throw was...not fun) and torque steer was out of control. But it hauled the kids around, quickly at times. Not sure what they are going for now, but I sold mine for $500 I think. Sort of wish I hadn't.

What about 04-08 Acura tl? I had an 06 6 speed manual and it was pretty sweet. 07-08 got some changes and hp upgrade with the TL-S.
Hmm
Acura...
Just saw a 540i 2003 for $4k. 112k miles. (Salvage title). That's the price you pay for one with 200k miles.. Just not sure if the salvage title scares me or not.

Salvage title has always scared me. Lots of flood cars here in Florida.
just curious here... how does a 3 year old not fit in an e46?
So the three year old fits fine in his booster seat. but when I sit in front of him there is no room for his feet between the seat he's sitting on and the back of the seat I'm sitting in.
The 1 year old rear facing literally has the passenger seat forward 6 or 8 inches from it's furthest back setting...
540i sold 1 hour after I started talking to the guy, interior was fantastic and it was a m-sport which means m5 bumpers and some other goodies. :(
I feel your pain, man. Rear-facing car seats are a PITA. Before our son was born, our 2-1/2 year old daughter was in a front-facing seat, which fit in just about all of our cars. Now, with the newborn, we're restricted to taking the wife's Canyonero if we want to take the whole clan anywhere.
